I have a 12 volt TM and just hooked two batteries to run off both at the same time. Don't have on board charger and was wondering if I need to seperate the two when I charge them or can I charge both at the same time?
Thanks

If they're hooked in series (12 volt) I would think they'd both get charged. Its not the most efficient way to do it though. After years of dealing with a trickle charger I finally bought on onboard and I love it. Minn Kota has some good rebates going on right now.

Hooking the batteries in PARALLEL gives you 12V. Don't hook them in series if you have a 12V motor! If the batteries are hooked in parallel, you will be able to charge them, but it will take longer.

I asked this same question earlier this year before I knew if the one battery for my bow mount would be sufficient. I was considering a 2nd battery but sticking with the charger I have now. Someone said I would have to separate the two and charge them separately.

You can charge the batteries together, in parallel. It just will take longer, than if you had a bank for each, and separated them.

I would charge them together so they are at the same charged levels. Like others have said, it will take longer because you are splitting your charge rate between 2 batteries. If you don't charge at the same time you could potentially run into a situation of having 2 batteries at different charge levels (Ex: 1 - 100% and 2 - 50%). It's always better to run batteries of the same charge strength.

Shep, I guess I'm missing something, but why can't you leave them hooked together, and put a bank on each? Thanks Doug

To put two batteries in parellel do I hook positive to positive? Saw parellel batteries couple weeks ago just cannot quite remember how it was.
Thanks,

Parallel Bateries. Pos to Pos, Neg to Neg.

As for why not a two bank charger and not separating them? If one battery is fully charged, all the current would go to the other. If you have a 15 amp charger, that would result in the one battery getting 30 amps.

I am not positive, but I think Guest and ProMariner suggest separating the batteries when in paraallel. I will look into it.
