Which down east rod holders do I need, S10's or Saltys, for trolling muskies? Also how would I mount them in a 175 Navigator without using railings or the clamp-on style. The Navigator doesn't have wide gunnels and it doesn't look like they will mount high enough to allow rod down position. The S10's look like they may make it, but i'm not sure by just looking at pics. Thanks!!!

Aren't the S-10 and Saltys the same thing? http://www.down-east.com/clamp-on.htm

Why don't you want clamp on? I'm just curious. I've got a Navigator 165, and I use the clamp ons all the time. I like being able to quickly remove or relocate them. Get the double-clamp S10s, and you'll be in great shape.

I think the saltys are powder coated, get the double clamp for ski's, they adjust really well ,long rods should give you a decent down position.

when I bought the Saltys last fall, you can buy them powder coated or not.

Saltys are the "heavy duty version" within each model---I just got theS-14 saltys for my new Ranger 1860 from Thorne Bros.---VERY competitve pricing (they have the powder coated avail. also).

I got the saltys in the powder coated. They will adjust to lower a rod in the water of any size. I have the clamp on model and they work great.

I fish out of a Navigator 175 and use the S-10's with Trojan Tackle bases mounted on the gunnel. They are very secure, and I troll a lot and with large hard, pulling baits. I filed out bottom of the casting a bit on the S-10's to ease setting and releasing the rod. Dave showed me how and it made a world of difference. THe rod holder if something I don't have to think about any more. Duff
