| What's everyone's opinion on casting crankbaits with fiberglass rods? Advantages and dis-advantages. Years ago, some of the pro's were advocating glass rods for crankbaits because of their slower reaction on the hookset. But, after using a glass rod for years, I've decided to move into a low grad graphite rod like a IM-6 rod. The rod not only has a bit slower response than a high grade rod,it still has the graphite in the blank so I could snap weeds off the hooks when necessary. It seems the glass rod would be fine for clean cranking, no weeds, and of course trolling. Any other opinions? Kdawg | |

Location: Yahara River Chain | All the noise you hear about glass crankbait rods is from bass guys. The bass flairs open its mouth and sucks in the bait. The sucking in part at times will cause the angler to set. thus missing the fish (pulling the bait away), which is why you want a slow action. With muskies they grab the bait and when you feel that you can set, the quicker the better. No need to have a slow rods for muskies. | |
