| What do you prefer to throw as far as glide baits. I threw a eddie bait once upon a time and liked it a lot but i was told that it had been custom weighted and they didn't work that way out of the box. Is there anything in a similar shape that works well out of the box. Or does a eddie bait work fine out of the box |

Location: IN | Mantas and Hellhounds are probably the easiest, straight out of the box gliders to throw. They aren't necessarily the same profile as an Eddie bait, but they are fool proof and they catch a ton of fish. |

| If you like that torpedo shape I'd definitely encourage you to try a Smitty bait. They're a bit easier to find in most cases have a wide range of finishes and are fish catching son of a guns. Russ also introduced a new heavier weighted version this year that I'm really anxious to try. |

For bigger baits, Beav's Perkas and Castors are very cool, I've just not yet had a fish hooked on one yet. For commercially made units, magic makers rock. m |

| I use a Hellhound and now a Manta Hang 10 and they are nice. I have a floating Salmo Slider and it has a different action but much tougher to start with. Even though they are not the exact same action I still like to chunck a Reef Hawg now and again. |

| I probably have 30 gliders. I have caught this many fish on gliders: (0)
I have raised many fish on gliders, some were of substantial size.
I can honestly say that glide baits suck. Bucktails don't suck, spinnerbaits don't suck, twithbaits and jerkbaits don't suck, bulldawgs don't suck (ok they DO but that's only because I can't seem to keep a fish pinned on one) But gliders??? They suck.
I AM, however, very attached to my glider collection. And I DO still throw them from time to time. WHY? Well, I like them. I like working them. I like lookin' at 'em. Fish like lookin at 'em, too. Here's what I like about the ones I like best:
6" phantom: They are reliable -- they all run the same. You can cast 'em a country mile, and they're super easy to work. Nice side to side action with a little roll, very little effort required to work them, no fatiguue.
Baby wabull: Same deal, except you can work them super super slow. And the round shape adds a nice up and down element too -- erratic, effortless, and just plain cool-looking in the water.
Both baits are something you look at in the water and think "how can a fish not eat that?!"
Someday I'll get the chance to ask a fish that question.

Their paint jobs are great, but the action....lethargic, ho-hum..not too thrilled with it . Mabye I just don't like gliders....
Anyone have an opinion on these? |

| Magic Makers move SO MANY fish for me it's unreal. There are so many ways to work these baits I've discovered over the past few seasons. While I'm not crazy about hooking percentages on gliders in general, this bait DOES hook fish with the 5/0 hooks that come standard.
Even if the fish doesn't strike, at least you get them pegged on location when they move on this bait...and alot of fish do move on this bait. |
