Just wondering I heard a walleye fisherman talk about the public accesses on mille lacs and said that the water level is to low and you won't be able to launch at them. He said you have to use the resort accesses. Is this going to be true this year?

Sometimes the resort accesses are worth the extra $$$. Especially if you are night fishing. Some of those public accesses are really dark and your truck is a lot safer parked at the resort. Water levels were real low last year, I depends on the size of your boat on some. Pray for some rain all the lakes in the state could use it.

I used a public access once last year for night fishing and when the waves came up it was very hard to get a big boat back on the trailer, kept getting stuck in the sand between swells. Also didn't have much fun because I was worried about the truck the whole time! Look into the resorts is my suggestion.

At the end of last season, the Pond was about 3' low. Not enough snow this Winter, and a relatively dry Spring so far, means most of the public ramps will be very, very low.Because of water levels and the propensity for "bad" things(theft, vandalism) to happen at the public ramps, find a resort and pay to launch. Much cheaper than a deductible.Walleye Opener in 2 weeks!!!! Steve

some of us would use up all the megabite on this site if we told all the theft/vand stories on Mille lacs
two lakes in Minn to pay for safe launch are Mille Lacs and Cass

I just counted up the number of trips I've made to these two lakes over the past few years. 54 trips to Mille Lacs and 31 trips to Cass. I've used a public access every time and I've never had a problem. Have I just been lucky? I have worried a bit about my truck at Cass with the number of stories I've heard. But I've never really worried much at Mille Lacs.

With what water levels were like on Mille Lacs late last fall, it was pretty ugly at the public accesses. Could be that I start using a resort ramp this year if it's still like that.

Steve, Thanks for the warnings about the public launches as I plan on going to MN this year - would appreciate any other similar tips , as I was unaware of such problems. Thanks, Don

So is there a good resort launch by Garrison?

I believe Myr Mar to the north and Terry's Boat Harbor to the south would be the closest ones to Garrison.

Yes Mille Lacs is low, from I have heard about 18 inches low.. It is low enough that we will not be putting docks in at our place in Sunset Bay.... We can see sand bars sticking out of the water several hundered yards out....

As for the public landing, AWH, you have been lucky!!!! Just pull into the public landing and look fo the amount of glass laying around, if windows have not been getting busted out, your odds are better....

Be careful leaving unattended stuff outsdie the casino too, unless yo want it to get stolen....

The resorts with harbors seem to not be affected as much..
