Howdy. I just got back from my annual pilgrimage to Salt Fork Lake, and she didn't disappoint today. I coulda/shoulda/woulda had a three big fish day, I will settle for this beautiful 46 incher that came in on the orange Treats bait nxtcast sold me last year from here.
It was the longest, biggest fight I've ever had with a fish. She swam in and out of the net twice and every time the net would go near the water she'd go freakin ballistic. Dunno how I held on, this lady at one of the cabins was watching it all with her daughter and took a couple photos for me. I'll get them scanned tomorrow, but here's one that really shows her markings. Very broad fish.

She was right where she should be, windblown sandy bank in a couple feet of water. Operator error caused me to miss one about ten minutes later, Capt. Oh Wow took over and, Oh Wow, I gotta fish i better do something didn't get it done. Lost one earlier on a Sledge, found a tooth drag 3/4 inches long afterward, dunno how but she bent my steel leader 45* getting away. Awesome day. Thanks guys, m

Thanks, guys. Pretty face my arse. Wait, that didn't...

Anyway, disobeying my doc's orders to rest my wrist, I spent 6 hours out casting yesterday. Dunno what the worst part was: the pain this morning or running into my doc while I was in line at CVS to get the film developed! "Hi, Michael, is that your boat out there?" "Uh, boat?"

Here's a couple more shots. Glad for the lady at the cabin who was nice enough to take a few pics for me with my camera. Glad for that Frabill, too! tie it to the boat and there are no worries. Why am I still home today? m

mikie...Congrats!!! Hopefully they only get bigger each day this year for you. Glad to see you pounded a really nice one. I love the markings on the fish; and it's a nice healthy one at that.
...and yes...may I ask what you're doing at home still; get out there and catch another!!!
Thanks for sharing, Jake Bucki

Very frickin cool pal. Your a machine now. Just a fish catching machine. Crazy how easy they come to those who release the beat from within.

So cool to see you sticking some fish, and some big ones to boot. Now thats a hoot!!!

Congrats again Mikie. Keep those pictures coming!!!

Great job! Bent the leader, eh? One of mine?

Love that you referred to yourself as Cornbread, too. I like to believe I gave you that nickname at Cass Lake back in '02.

Yep, Ranger, and when Raze made up a magazine cover about Cornbread Guide Service ("We comb the shorelines, not our hair"), it stuck pretty good.
Nope that was a Thorne Bros. 125 pound leader it bent. That fish did something evil to get loose, can't quite figure out what but at least now I know I should have cut back on the drag just a wee bit! Hindsight and all that, I was just amazed to turn up 4 fish that day. Just had that old feelin that would be a good day. it twas.

Now, if I can get this fish pic registered in the Lax contest i'd be one better. Got some experts looking into the problem, it registered fine (twice!) but the photo won't show up and after all, it is a photo contest. m

Mikie,

Congratulations, man! Nice fish! Just think if you had obeyed the doc's orders... Maybe you should try disobeying him just one more time, like this weekend?

Yeah, Cory, that was a blast; I wish I still had a copy of that photo we took in Tony's rec room - with Sponge hiding behind everyone. It was on my hard drive when it crashed and I've never been able to replace it. Thanks for all the encouragement and support, it comes in especially handy right now. I think I've got my mind right for this season, just gotta stay focused. m
