I would. And when you are in the store, check the new one before walking out of the store with it.

Take it right back. When you get the replacement, tear it down, clean it out, upgrade with Smooothie drag washers, relube lightly, put it back together and then keep it clean/dry. Keep the pressure off the drag system when you're not fishing.

That's the short story, read Lambeau's excellent posts above for the whole story.

If the reel is not rigged up (no weight on the spool), most all of the abus will make that grinding sound. I can't remember the exact terms, but the sound is coming from where the spool connects to the spindle gear. My new C4 did it and I took it apart about 5 times trying to find something wrong. A few days later "reelman" responded to a thread with someone with the same problem and finaly put me at ease with the new reel. I hope this describes your concern and puts you at ease. If not I'm sure abu will take good care of you!

THere is no need to put Smooothy drag washers in the current Abu's. 2 years ago they switched to Carbon Matrix drag washers and they are every bit as good as Smooothy's if not better.

Ok, well, I defer to Reelman's opinions. He's an authority on this sort of thing.
