| With all the attention given to the Curado 300, I had to check and see if Abu ever built a Musky sized low profile reel. They did! I had to pull out the old BPS catalogs again but in the early 90's, Abu had a series out called the "Max". Three levels- the black max, gold max,and the pro max. All three levels had two sizes, 1 and 2. The number 2 had a line capacity, according to BPS, of 140yds. of 20lb. line. Gear ratios changed from 5:1 to 5:3.1. I think the only negative feature of the reels were they were built on a graphite frame. Anybody have one of these reels? I have the Black Max 1 that I use for bass fishing. Interesting......Is a Musky sized Revo on the way? Kdawg | |

Location: Davenport, IA | I've heard they were going to build a bigger revo for saltwater...if its as big as the curado 300, my curado is for sale. The revos are really impressive reels and I'm not an abu fan at all.

| Low profile "musky" reels that Abu made: Gold MAXII, Pro MAXII, 522, 523, XLTII, XLTIII, UltraMag II (UMII), UM III, UM IV, UM V, UM VI.
Most of these were also made in left hand versions as well and some in Synchro versions. The UltraMag 4, 5, and 6 were really not musky size as they were HUGE more like 7000 to 10,000 sized reels for salt water use but they were still low profile. The Gold Max and Pro Max were also available in 2 speed versions.
