Location: Stones throw away...finally!! | Our chapter had its first spring tournament this past weekend at Pleasant Creek inby Cedar Rapids this last Saturday and thought that you might like to see the results. The tourney went great. The weather cooperated and there was a good number of fish caught, 10 to be exact. I don't have the information or all of the pictures in front of me right now, but thought that I would at least post the pictures that I have along with the results that I know off of the top of my head. All in all the outing was a great sucess and look forward to continuing for several years.
10 fish caught ranging in size from 32" to 46" (2)
1st - Chris Carlson, Roger Broadbent, Scott Yeager - 38, 38, 37.5
2nd - Mike Dailey and Virg Harrison from Chapter 29 - 46" @ 9:00 AM
3rd - Dave Dayton and Roy Eakins - 46" @ 3:00 PM
Congrats to everyone and thanks to all those that participated or helped out.
I will post the pics that I have and add others as they come in.
The pig noses, which were a prop for the tourney (PC Hog Hunt) were a very funny addition to the photos.

Location: Stones throw away...finally!! | Gliders seemed to work for the smaller fish, trolling for the two larger ones. |

| that's just great...gliders....lame!
nice fish for sure....is your club planning on stocking the lake or another lake? that lake could easily support more fish per acre.... |

Location: Stones throw away...finally!! | BN,
Needless to say, it has been an uphill battle with the DNR regarding the stocking efforts. We had a statewide meeting with them in March and were told that nothing was going to change. Pretty frustrating, especially when you look at all the fish the Spirit Lake Hatchery puts out. Last year they produced over 50,000 stockable size muskies. Around 5,000 went to Iowa lakes. the other 90% went out of state. We just can't seem to get them to realize the potential of our lakes. We would love to help with the stockings of some local lakes, but last word was that the DNR was not for it. All we can do is keep trying and hopefully make baby steps to increasing the quality of our fishery. |

| that sucks...I'm surprised they would be opposed to a muskies inc club purchasing muskies to stock?
Our club in Madison does that and we work hand in hand w/ the DNR here...maybe contact some clubs like ours and see how they were able to get approval?
I would be frustrated if I were you too!
That lake could handle 2 fish per acre no problem imo.

| bn, I was at the DNR meeting and it was mentioned that we would be willing to help with the financial costs but they told us they didn't need more muskies becouse they were producing way more than they needed at the hatchery already. It kinda sucks becouse a large part of our fish have made many musky lakes in Illinous, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan (and a few other states) what they are today and yet in Iowa we can't get hardlly anything put in our lakes.
Way nice tourney results, I opted to go to a different Iowa lake, got one 37"er but nothing even close to those 46"ers. Nice job to the guys that got 3 also, mabee I'll have to hit you up for tips cause in the few times I've fished the lake I could'nt even get a follow. Hopefully I see some of you guys at the Clear Lake tourney on April 28th. Be Good. |

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Maybe get more aggressive with the DNR, perhaps pound them into thinking that "We need to take care of (OUR) lakes) .
Don't be complacent ,Don't settle for less, And most of all Develop a GOOD Relationship with the MAIN decision makers at the DNR.
Keep up the good work and don't give up the FAITH.........Protect your muskie fishery's.
