when i saw the new lineup of ProMaps on the '07 Lakemaster chips i new i needed to upgrade since they added a couple of my favorite lakes to the 1 or 3 foot contour level of detail.

i shopped around and settled on Thorne Bros as the place with the best prices. i called them last week and talked to a salesman: yep, they had them in stock. i was very clear about asking him to make sure that he sent me the new '07 chips (one for WI and one for MN) and not last year's version. he assured me three different times that he understood and would do so.

the package from Spee-Dee was sitting on the porch after work today. hooray! however, when i opened it i smelled something fishy. or not fishy. or something. anyway, my radar was up and it made me carefully check the packaging. MN chip? yep, the new one from '07. the WI chip? hmm...the number of lakes is wrong and it doesn't say anything about the update like on the MN one. so i check the product numbers and sure enough, they sent me the old chip. daarrgghh.

one phone call to Thorne Bros later tells me they don't have the '07 WI chips, but they've been ordered. they asked me to send it back, promised i'd have the right/new one within 10 days, and are going to rebate me the cost of shipping the wrong one back to them.

moral of the story?

- check your map chips carefully:
the new MN chip is 108-203 (old is 108-180)
the new WI chip is 108-204 (old is 108-181)
the product numbers are clearly listed on the back of the package.

- Thorne Bros will make it right if they screw something up.

That new chip is scary good too. Can' wait to get mine out on the water and do a little experimenting with it.

Is thornes the best place to buy the lakemaster chips? I have heard that lakemaster was going to offer a two-fer deal(I need both MN and WI), and was wondering if that was true.

Can't you also send Lakemaster your old one and get a rebate on it if you buy a new one. Somethind like $75 for your old one? If so, that would be a great deal!

I'd like to pick up the new WI chip. Gander has MN, not WI. Thorne seems out. Anyone know of another source?

call Thorne's!
they're bending over backwards to get mine for me, and they will have them in plenty of time for season opener.

mention you want to be sure it's the '07 one and they'll know what you're talking about.

found the 07 at hodgesmarine.com for I think 67.59$ Since I bought two depthfinders from there it wasn't any extra for shipping....
