If a 6.3:1 ratio is good for ripping would a slower ratio be better for twitching by giving the bait more time to wobble and/or move side to side between reeling?

If you are twitching, the ratio will just bring in line faster. You can let the bait just sit there and then reel, etc. No matter what you are doing (ripping or twitching) the action is imparted by you through the rod, so the gear ratio on the reel will not be anything major.

Any major cranking with resistance will wear out the gears faster on the higher speed ratio....this is where you would want the lower gear ratio...makes it easier to reel in, and is easier on the reel itself. It would be very similar to trying to pedal a bike uphill...1st gear is always easier than 10th, etc...
