The hot new trend in fishing lines is red -- supposedly because red line is the least visible in water. From Power Pro's description of their new Phantom Red line:

"As line descends below the surface, water absorbs the wavelengths of light selectively, one by one, as depth increases. Red is the first color to disappear, at a depth of 15 feet (which is why underwater photographers often use red filters to restore red colors in their pictures)."

So the question is: Why do we use red baits?

Good question: Same thing with red hooks. My buddy an I have thought about this in the past couple of years. But i didn't even think about baits!

Because we think they look cool. And they never dissapear or become invisible, they just stop looking red below certain depths. Probably appear more brown or grey than red in most instances.

Red turns black when there is no more red to reflect.
