I read the post on bowfishing dogfish, and it brought up some similar questions about carp. A lake I often fish has decent numbers of carp. I wouldn't call them a nuisance, but you can definitely hear them splashing around in shallow weedbeds in the spring, so I know there are plenty of them. (is this the spawn?)
Most people I talk to consider them a threat to every species...(for reasons I don't understand). Occasionally i'll catch one, and it's hard to release them, because in the back of my mind, I wonder carp really do hurt the Muskie population in the lake. Carp are herbivores mostly, so I can't understand how they would be competition for Muskie. If anything, carp are a food source... right?
-or should I just throw them in the garden?
People also seem to treat rock bass like the plague. Killing all they catch. What's the logic behind this?
