We all sure can.

You'll need to start with at least one baitcaster rod/reel combo that can handle muskie baits. You'll start with an "all purpose" rod, about 6'6" or 7", with a dependable sturdy reel. There's a wide range of options and it gets expensive quick. I would recommend a Cortland rod ($80) with a Abu Ambasauder 6500c3 reel. Load the reel with 80# PowerPro or similar superline. You can probably ask someone on the board to sell you a used rig for cheaper, post a WTB on the buy/sell/trade board.

You'll need a couple baits. Get a bucktail (Buchertail 700 blk/svlr), a crankbait (7.5" Grandma in Firetiger) and a topwater (Topraider in Blk/orng spots) to start. Buy a few leaders.

You'll need a big net and you'll need release tools such as heavy duty needlenose pliars and some mini-bolts if you have to cut a hook.

Camera for catch and release photos.

Lake map and info from locals if possible.

Best to find someone on the baord who lives near you and set up a fishing date. You'll learn fast with an experienced local.

Good luck!

I fish in WV, but only in the northern part. Are you going to be fishing rivers? The man you need to talk to is mauser, he's in that part of the world.
