| Is there anything that you have learned over the winter on these boards that you feel will catch you more fish?
I think... what I have learned about a muskies ENVIRONMENT will help me the most this comming year. What about you guys?
MUSKY ILLINI
"I am the Lizard King, I can do anything" |
|
| |
|
| Time will tell if I can actually put to use what I've learned from the people who post here at MuskieFirst. I haven't been coming here for all that long, but I hope that the tips that I received about fishing tactics during a cold front pay off into more muskies for me!
I still have a few months worth of posts to read to catch up! I should be able to finish them before openning muskie here in Wisconsin!![:)] |
|
| |
|
| I think that I've learned if I spent as much time FISHING this summer as I did on all these boards, shows and MI meetings, I'll have no choice but to catch a ton of fish[:sun:] |
|
| |
|
| I learned that cartoon characters really do excist, and they eat Payday candy bars![;)]
Wish I was going to the Cave Spongy, you could fish out of my boat as long as you don't fall in and soak up all the water!
Payday's for everyone!!!!!![:p] |
|
| |
|
| I have learned A few things:
1, Winter is longer that I like.
2, Open season is too short.
3, I need more cash to get all the goodies I want.
4, I don't have enough vacation time to fish all the places I'd like to.
5, What a great bunch of folks we have on this Board!!!!!!

| |
|
| I learned that I am busier in the winter doing musky related stuff than I am during the season!
I learned that I can travel 450 miles to a sport show and noone is surprised to see me anymore.
I learned that if I walk by the slammer tackle booth, I buy a bait.
I learned that if I see a new glide bait, I buy it.
I learned that early is the wrong time to leave a swap meet.
I learned that nobody likes algae blooms.
I learned that if some dumb drunk beligerant guy is talking to you, you can pawn him off on B240.
At 6', I am among the tallest of musky fisherman.
MuskieE is accident prone, but he makes a good lure.
Would post more but the kids are bugging to go fishing. |
|
| |
|
| I learned that if you are honest with yourself about your monetary situation, you can control your spending....also helps to not go to Sport Shows.
I learned that Jason Smith will hold your boots hostage if you drag him 6 hours each way to a frozen lake.
I learned that Running_Hot loves to throw pastry and cookies at me in the boat, and will get grossed out if I eat the cookies when they land on the motor.
I learned that not all Lamiglas and St.Croixs float.
I learned that work still sucks, even when the fishing season is closed by ice!
I learned that you can survive if you don't have 100X more baits than you can use in a lifetime.

|
| |
|
| I learned that in only a couple years I have "learned my lesson" and have not found the need to buy an excessive amount of new baits each winter. What I mean to say is, I have one of every "type" of bait, so I don't have them in every color, does that really matter?
You can't catch fish while you are changing baits, keep it in the water! |
|
| |
|
| RIGHT ON SPONGEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:)] |
|
| |
|
| i learned :
that this board and people who are "regulars" are the best in the business,
that I am not alone in my one true love, muskie fishing,
I enjoy the unscheduled evening chats
and the most important, that Sponge is my HERO!!! Thanks for making me laugh so many times whe I need it! fishingfool/Paul |

|
| ToddM Im not accident prone just gifted in a differant way on the off season.I sure hope my 2 lessons this winter help me give my baits alittle differant action.
Things I learned:
1-Dont date two girls at the same time.
2-Always leave all sports shows before ToddM can find you.
3-Pay off slammercrank baits to keep ToddM busy at shows.
4- All muskie hunters are trully kind warm hearted men and women.
5-Stay home more often and youll have less problems.
6-I prolly should have gone to the cave with muskiefirst. |
|
| |
|
| I learned that when a new guy posts... "Whats the best lake in Wisconsin for muskies?"
After someone replies "EAGLE RIVER" it takes 22 minutes for the post to go to PAGE 2. []
MUSKY ILLINI
"Why do you guys sit on your helmuts?"
"Its so we dont get our BALL$ blown off!" |
|
| |
|
| I learned:
- that sometimes it's better to be seen and not heard
- that YES, Spongebob is my hero
- that I don't think Ashton will EVER have a hard time finding a boat seat
- that after a certain type of male surgery...the pain does go away
- that I wish I was going to the Cave
- that when times are tough those that really count pull together
- that unlike others...I can never have too many musky baits
- and last but not least, your family is only a keyboard away.
Thanks guys.

| Man, stop you guys, I'm gettin all choked up.[;)]
I've learned soooo much from this and the R&H board. Looking forward to trying.....
* PowerPro instead of mono
* Suick tips, especially those from good old Rollie himself.
* Jigs and creatures
* Fine tuning baits
* Different presentations with familiar baits
The worst thing about the board[:0] [:0] is this....
I want a new boat. I want a new Tuffy boat. It's like an obsession - I think about it every dang day. I did not have this ailment before getting hooked on this site. Considering the family budget plans, I was content with my trusty Blue Fin, but no more, no more, I want a new boat.
Anybody want to trade a starter Tuffy for a 1966 Ford F-100 Custom Cab pickup? A calssic, with the two-tone paint job and polished alum all over the place. Good shape, I've been in parades with it! |
|
| |
|
| I learned to buy more custom color Slammers at the shows because there aren't any left when the shows are done.
I learned that we can come together to help out a kid and put all of our political tensions aside for awhile in order to do some good. I hope everybody learned from that experience, because we have to do it again.
I learned that there are lots of thechniques out there that I still haven't been successful with.
I learned that it's still a long time between muskie seasons, and that it seems even longer when you get older.
So soon we get old, so late we get smart.

|
| After 6 months of serious planning,I'm sure the first few trips out will find me doing the same things I always do. Maybe around June I'll remember what I planned on doing. I need to appease my addiction first before my brain can resume some semblence oflogical thought. |
|
| |
|
| I learned that mild winters suck as much as regular ones! [:knockout:] |
|
| |
|
| I've learned to go home or back to the hotel after the muskie show to avoid embarrasment.
I've learned that some have 50 over 30" and some have 2 over 250#.
I've learned that Dick Pearson is the nicest, most personable "pro" I've met.
I've learned that the politics of the muskie world is exactly the same as the politics in the musky world.
I've learned that Happy Hooker REALLY likes pizza.
I've learned NEVER to sing with the Midge in Wisc. bars.
I've learned that most people have hearts of gold.
I've learned that Beaver likes to yell ARMEGEDDON in a high voice.
I've learned that muskies do not eat walleye's and that they should rename all gold colored baits "Glitter Gold" instead of Walleye. (Thanks Tom!)

|
| - I learned that musky illini's replies are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo hilarious![;)] []
- I learned that you are all a bunch of wonderful, caring people who worked (and still do) together to help out a little boy not many of us have met. Heck, here in Belgium hardly anyone would consider starting such an event, let alone keep it going! Great job guys! Thanks to everyone who donated and to Steve Shady and sworrall for pulling this off!
- I learned sponge bob's posts are the funniest I ever read
- I learned many useful things regarding fishing as well, I will be trying lots of new techniques that have been discussed here this winter
- I learned that all the pro's and guides that have replied to me and emailed me are top-notch guys! This is quite the contrary here.
- I made lots of friends here, never knew you musky anglers were such great guys! Most people have the wrong impression about you in Europe.
- I learned how addictive this site is. I keep coming back[:praise:] I guess that won't hurt me![] [] |
|
| |
|
| Hey. Wait a sec. Waddya mean "Most people have the wrong impression about you guys in Europe."?![:(]
[] [] [] []
I'm just foolin'. |
|
| |
|
| ranger, you had me worried ... for about three seconds! Then I laughed my head off (have to go and look for it again)![;)] []
Most people think you guys are "the musky community" and this "community" is rather exclusive, closed for strangers, ... But I never got such a warm welcome as here on this site. Even though few of us have met, everybody gets along. |
|
| |
|
| I learned everyone on this board have trophy sized hearts that are reaching out to a little child.
I learned that I still need to slow down my presentations when fronts come through.
I never thought there were so many people as crazy as me.
I learned that I have many more friends than a year ago.
Keep up all the good work everyone.
