Location: Rhinelander. | On another post it stated that the big landing nets are illegal in wisconsin> The rim size is to big of an opening. My question is this. Say someone caught a 60pounder in wisconsin and registered it with the new record keeping association or hall of fame. It was found out that such a net was used to land the fish. Would it be thrown out?

| I saw this post. I don't really care if it is "Technically" illegal or not. I'd fight this one to the supreme court if I had to. Scoopy a LANDING net and that is all. |

Our rules state that the catch MUST be accomplished with methods legal in the state or province where caught. That is why Tim Simonson for the WDNR, one of our judges suggested this change for Wisconsin. It is a law, that as far as I am aware, has never been enforced...especially since the tremendous increase in muskie net sizes available now, and of course the great number of anglers using them. One of those "old" laws on the books, like spitting on the sidewalk in some towns, that have never been updated. Tim's idea was to get it changed to allow those carrying those giant nets to be in compliance.
Another good example would be gaffs. They are not allowed in NY state.
