| Is there anyone who thinks two trebles isn't enough on a lure of this size (13")? Anyone thought of a way to add a third? I would think Shumway would have done enough field testing to be confident that two is enough but just curious what everyone thinks. |

| I havent used a Giant Flasher, and likely never will, but I would agree with you that the Shumways likely did enough testing to be confident in their hook configuration. At least, as a consumer, I hope they did.
Personally, I prefer 3 hooks on a bait of that length. 3 hooks on a 13" Grandma, why not on a bucktail?
If you are going to leave the 2 hook setup, I strongly suggest upsizing the hooks. The ones on the big flasher seem pretty undersized for a bait of that size, IMO. |

Location: Yahara River Chain | I'm with 2 small. Just put on a couple of 7/0s (I'm not sure how the front hook is attached) and it should be fine. If you were to miss a fish as it didn't hit either of the two hooks, the fish was likely too small to mess with.
If the front hook is unchangable, just make sure the rear hook gets the 7/0. Just remember that with all baits you have to set the hook and you better do it hard to move that bait so that the rear hook embeds. |

Location: Medford, WI | Guest, I personally don't have any experience with the new Giant Flasher, however I can relate to your question.
I got a Flasher last spring and questioned the one-hook setup, but after fishing it all summer, I assured myself that the one hook was the way to go. I didn't try adding a hook at all, but I did not miss a fish that I know of on the 'tail....and it also went through quite a few muskies. My favorite bait for sure.
As I mentioned, I don't have any experience w/ the Giant Flasher, but I'm sure the Shumway brothers put two on there for a reason, just as they put one on the regular Flasher. I need to get one of these Giant's soon; I can't wait to throw it this summer.

| Medford Fisher, I think you must have a baby flasher (8"). The regular flasher (9.5") has two trebles.
Both of the hooks on the giant flasher swing freely, so I'll swap them out for a slightly bigger size. I think there is a big bucktail around 14" that only has one treble, is it the g-train maybe? |

Location: Medford, WI | Guest, thanks for pointing that out. After double-checking, you're correct about the regular flasher having two trebles. I swear I have a regular sized one though. I'll have to check when I go home tonight.
I'm confused because at Rollie & Hellen's (muskyshop.com), it says the Funky Chicken bucktail is 9" long and has two hooks; however, I am positive the Funky Chicken bucktail I have only has one treble. I also know that the Flasher I have is definitely bigger/longer than my Funky Chicken tail. A mystery...I'll have to check it out tonight!

Location: The Yahara Chain | Aaron is probably correct. I have a couple of older ones and they have two hooks on them. A 9" bucktail should have two hooks on it, IMO. |

Rollie and Helen's is famous for mis-stating about every statistic there are for lures: they characteristically list weights that differ from the manufacturers reported weights, and they mis-state the length/profile size of most all lures.
Seriously -- if you are particular about what a bait weighs, as you might have a particular rod and reel combination in mind to throw it with .... these are not the folks to depend on in the specific parameters mentioned.
Any and all of this information can easily be verified. Visit almost any lure manufacturers web site, and then compare what R&H says about it. Invariably, the information will differ.
Personally, I find that extremely annoying, unreliable, and inexcusable. I spend big bucks on this stuff, and don't feel that I have to experiment with such foolishness.
