Location: north central wisconsin | Just wondering if anyone with a Ranger 690 could chime in here and tell me what trolling motor shaft length/lb thrust they are using with success. The rig has a maxum 74 lb on it now that I plan to sell with the removable plate. I would like to get an auto-pilot but see that the regular auto-pilot is only offered in a 70lb version, and I'd have to go up to the Terrova to get the 80lb. have no experience with the Terrova, and wonder if anyone has any experience with them. I would rather have 80, but not sure if the extra $$ for the Terrova is well spent...

Location: WI - Land of small muskies and big jawbones | I don't have a 690 but if I did I would go with a 60" shaft and look for an 80lb that someone might have for sale or a dealer that may still have one on clearance. MK just came out with the 80lb power drive a couple years ago. I don't understand why they quit making it already. |

| go with the 80 lb Terrova w/ 60" shaft ...
or you can call some minn kota dealers and they can check the reconditioned list you could probably get an auto pilot 80"er for a good deal..they come with warrantys and look basically new

On my old 690 VS, I ran a 54 inch 65 pound thrust Maxxum because that is what was put on it 2 mos. prior to me purchasing the unit. It worked just fine, I was never short on power and the only time I was a little short on length was in some really rough stuff on Mille Lacs that quite frankly I shouldn't have been fishing in anyway.
That being said. IMHO, anything over 65lb. thrust should work just fine for you. I would suggest the 60 inch shaft. |

Location: Tomahawk, WI | i have a 690 with 36v 101# Maxxum 60" shaft, i could pull a water skier. Overkill? maybe a little, i agree with Mike and Brad on the 80# 60" shaft 24v. The only thing i dont like on mine is the extra (heavy) battery required with a 36v, now a mouse could not even fit in my battery compartment. On the other hand, with a 36v my charges will last longer.

Location: north central wisconsin | Thanks guys. I will probably go with the Terrova, simply because I have to, to get the thrust I require. It seems I am basically forced into the Terrova to get the thrust, even though I don't want/need the pedal it comes with. Mike H., the new power drives/auto pilot v2's have the faster turning too. I asked Chuck Brod(our local Minn Kota guru) about it yesterday afternoon. How high/tall is that Terrova pedal? Which steering controls do you use most frequently on it? That is one nice feature that I have longed for. I would suspect that that feature alone could sway some cable drive folks to electric steer models.
Hey, anyone have any experience + - with the power steer Motor Guides in the 24 vlt higher thrust models?

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | The pedal isn't much higher than the old Powerdrive pedals. I really like it alot. If I am fishing from the front, I use the two back "tap" buttons. If I am guiding, I use the rocker pedal.
