Im not looking for your top secrets but does anyone have any tidbits of info they would like to share on colors, lures, or luck they have had? Im the new guy and these are some of the lakes I have fished, and cant wait to get back out again. Thanks | |

Location: Aitkin, Blaine, Minnesota | I used to fish Forest quite a bit. I stopped fishing it when I bought my cabin on Mille Lacs. If it wasnt for that I would still fish it often.I did real well using firecracker phantoms 7.5 inch models. I would fish them tight lined/quick jerks to get them to walk the dog quickly . Also black and chartruese bucktails/ spinner baits (Marvs big single bladed thumper).
Going west to east it looks like three separate lakes. Between two and three there is a channel and point and Nw of the north point o theat channel has been great for me. Deep water, shallow water, weeds, suspended, etc. all around that area has produced for me. No secret when you look at a topo map classic structure, trust you judgement and prevailing conditions.
The thing I like about Forest is it was easy to read given the conditions and small enough to try everything when the muskies seemed tight lipped. Dont forget to troll no mans land.
I never caught a 50 there but I saw some. Two things to watch for is the pleasure boats ripping through the channel and the weed cutters coming through and ruining your "perfect" fishing spot.
Good Luck

| I am responding to the league that was mentioned. Here is our 2007 schedule. Both nights that we fish Forrest should be good. Alot of our luck has been mostly based on the weather. Both how hot it has been and if the lake is starting to cool in August. We have had nights out there where the sirens went off after 1 hour- you name it. Weather wise June we have not had perfect nights. But someone usually scores.
Our league schedule plays to the lakes that are generally ON seasonally for the league. A few years ago we tried to mix up the schedule but we took a hit in the number of fish caught. The way it works out 1st place usually has caught 4 or 5 muskies and fished most events with some partner points mixed in. You don't have a chance of winning it if you don't catch multiple fish. A big old fatty will bump you in the standings along with partner and particpation points. It still comes down to catching fish and participating.
Everything league wise is totally ON YOUR HONOR. It is a great time to get to know new members and get them involved with our chapter.
Come on out and join us. We usually meet at the landing after the end time for a quick recap and B.S. session.

You will need to report the events fished within 2 weeks. You must post on www.northmetromuskies.com. I will need to know your partners name, what lake you fished and any muskies caught. Only one member will need to report. Only ONE partner per night counts. You may fish 3 people in a boat. Please turn your release forms into the Members Only Contest Chairman. The league is a fun night out with other chapter members. The league is a great way to meet other muskie fishermen and make friendships. The best part is that the league is FREE. Good luck to all this coming season. We will post the standings on, www.northmetromuskies.com message board.
Good Luck
