Location: Michigan | Hi,
I just ordered a Humminbird 787c2 sonar/gps unit. I just realized I ordered the one with the external GPS reciever, My question is, would I be better off sending it back and getting the unit with the internal GPS? is one better than the other? is the external harder to install? They are both the same price.
Thanks. | |

| I had the same question when I was just looking for a new GPS. I talked to Pat Smith at Thornes and he steered me to an external antenna. You will always get a stronger signal with an external antenna.
The internal antenna gives you a little more in the way of mobility, but with a little ingenuity you can rig your external antenna unit to be just as mobile.
I am in the process of rigging a Global Map 3500C (external antenna) so that it will remain totally portable.
Personally, I would stick with the external antenna.

| I am not sure with the HB, but I bet you can use an external with the unit you have. If you can, and want to spend the xtra dollars, then you can use the external when in the boat, and the interanl in your truck, or on your ATV or sled. I'll do a little digging, and try to find out. | |
