Looking for a lower ratio reel. My main ones are currently 6500's. I'd like to stay with Garcias too.

Any suggestion on what model Garcias for a slower ratio for deep cranks, rolling spinners and crawling jigs???

I think this is the right model name, 5500 C4-Winch, I know the winch part is right anyways. It is 3.8:1, I bought one last fall and like it very much, reels in depthraiders, mann's stretch 30+, and other deep diving hard pulling cranks like nothing, you will like it.[]

I have a couple of 6500 C3s with 4.7 to 1 ratio. I use them mosly for trolling large cranks in the fall.

Scott - You can change the ratio of the reels you have. There are a couple suppliers out there that will sell you high quality and inexpensive replacement gears for your 6500. Don't have the names in mind, sorry, but you can probably track them down if interested.

Of course, needing a different gear ratio is a very good reason to buy a brand new reel.[:)] I've used weaker excuses on the wifey.

Garcia makes the C4 wech, which is 3.8to1. Shimano makes the curado in a 3.8to1 also. Quantum also makes a low profile reel that is 3.8to1.

The Abu winches have a gold spool instead of the usual silver.

The Winch is on the 5500 frame though isn't it?? Smaller reel with less line capacity I thought. That's why I was looking for something on the 6500 frame with a slower ratio. I did look at Shimano's found one with 4.7 but in all reality is the 4.7 that much different than the 5.3?? I may try the Winch and see what happens.

I was always told that a good rule of thumb is a minimum of 100yds of 20 pound line.

Pros, any comments?

theedz I bought a 5600c4 winch and found that it was too slow so I swtched the gears to 5.3:1, I still have the 3.8:1 gears and they will work in a 6500c3 or c4 if you would like to swap for someting I've got no use for them. drop me an email we'll work something out.
