29"er on a #5 blk/org mepps. Thats the only bait that I've retired to date. It took me over six years of trying to catch my first. It's still in the boat/box for good luck but stays dry. Always fun thinking back to memorable fishing milestones.

Rapala Shad Rap 9RS in natural shad pattern: We had just given up fishing for muskies and started a troll for walleyes when a 38" muskie took the balit on a light spinning rod with 8lb test.

1st trying for muskie - 6 inch Super Shad Rap in Fire Tiger. We caught a healthy 42" wake trolling a breakline. While trying to manage the fish I got my first hook stuck in by hand. Not much fun geing connected to 42" of pissed off muskie. I learned my lesson that day -- at least I was smart enough to have my cutters handy.

My first legal was on 6lb test and a number 6 hook that was in a bluegills mouth. The muskie hit my gill and the hook managed to hook into the muskies mouth.

My first legal muskie came shortly after that on a number 9 shad rap. Silver deep diver worked down a weed edge. After getting 2 muskies in a few weeks I was hooked. That was 35 years ago.

Both my first Muskie and my first Pike came in the same week and from the same lake way back when.

First Muskie came on a big, 8 or 9 inch black/silver floating Rapala. Still have that exact bait. It's retired and is in a special place.

First Pike came on the traditional red/white Daredevil spoon. Still have that exact bait and it's retired as well.

Carolina rigged plastic Black w/gold flecked worm. Yup, I was bass fishing. On Pewaukee. This thing goobled it up, and when I set the hook, I was sure I had the biggest bass ever caught. Turns out it was a 37" muskie, and that was the last day I ever fished for LM Bass on purpose.

I caught my first on the only lure that I owned at the time.

The original red and white Daredevil. I can't tell you how big she was, but for a 9 year old kid it was the largest fish I had ever seen. My friends helped me to cary it home because we all thought it was a pike. I hadn't ever seen a Muskie before that day on the Mississippi, in downtown Mpls.
