 Pewaukee Lake vs Okauchee Lake

With lots of hype already starting and ice fishing for game fish now over I was thinking about getting a Pewaukee Lake vs Okauchee Lake Opening weekend fun going. Total number of Muskie Inc points wins. This will make it equal in the large fish vs numbers issue. We will figure out something to make it an equal compitition between the lakes.

Smokey's Muskie Shop will hold it's anual Friday night party for everyone who would like to stop down and get the scoop on the lakes. There is rumors of a special treat that will happen. Food related. Stop down for some food, drinks and fun.

With Steve Worrall coming down and Slamr coming up to fish the opener I am sure we can make this a huge event. What are the actual odds of Steve being here to fish?

Battle of the lakes is started and we shall see what lake will come out as "Top Dog".

Well it's on!!!

Sign up on this tread. Post you name and lake. I will edit this post with the names. Please post partners name also.

Me and my partner have a fat pig we've been chasing for three years on Okauche. If somebody caught her, we would have heard about it. Maybe this year?

Fished the opener last 5 years on Okauchee, and yet to boat a fish. So where will I be? Okauchee of course. I just hope to get to the launch early enough. Since when is 4:30 late. Last year got there at 4:30 and had to leave cause the launch was full. Came back at 11:00 no problem but all the fish already saw everyone elses baits. Whats this about Smokeys I would like more info.

It was like that before it was talked about on the net. There are only 17 spots at the public launch on Okauchee. You can still launch at a private one, but they charge you an arm and a leg sometimes. (sometimes they are cool and it's only $10)

Okauchee is the home of some huge fish. On the average they are fatter and longer fish for fish when compared to Pewaukee Lake fish.

Smokey's always has a small party on Friday, the day before the opener, for all of us who like to get together and get primed up for Saturday morning. Somehow it always seems to hurt the next morning BUT that hurt always goes away as the sun comes up and the baits start flying.

Maybe we should do a Muskies Inc point systed so the bigger fish will get more points. That way when Pewaukee kicks the snot out of Okauchee in numbers it might be close in points.

Look for the Extreme Team to put a hurtin on Okauchee Lake.

If Slamr is going to Okauchee then Steve Worrel will have to fish Pewaukee. I will consult Steve Friday night to make sure he get his share of fish.

Let the trash talk start................

I never fish opening weekend....but I'll be out there Mon-Fri every morning with the place to myself. Might fish both lakes in a day.....who am I crapping? I'll fish P for 3 hours, then I'll sleep in the truck for 3 or 4 hours and then fish O for 3 hours.
I hope it warms fast, I really enjoy some of the days that I spent on both of those lakes where I would throw for skis until I got tired, and then would go flippin' and pitchin' for a few hours. I have pounded some of my biggest bass ever on those 2 lakes in the early spring.
I heard from some guys that the bass fishing has really fallen off in both of those lakes. I'll have to find out. One day on one of those lakes I fished for muskies until the sunshine and lack of wind drove me to pitching docks. By mid afternoon I had caught and released over 50 fish. A mixture of smallmouths and largemouths with a 20" smallie and my biggest largemouth of 24 3/4" that had to go 7+ pounds. Like a green football.
Anyway, make sure and post about which of the lakes in the area is hot and what lures are producing, and I'll keep you up to speed during the week.
Maybe if the other Walking Bull is tired of catching walleyes up nort, he could drive down and join me for a couple of days.

I'm sure he'd be more than happy to do that for ya.

Why do you need a 9.9? If for some reason you do need a 9.9, you could definitely use that. It's usually not too brutal wind wise early in the year out there, plus there are plenty of places to get out of the wind.

Since Mikes talking smack and the Okauchee crew cant rely on Joel to catch a legal fish (6 shorties...MAYBE), Ive decided to pick up the slack and fish Okauchee..LOL

Just to make it fair it should be Pewaukee VS Okauchee/Oconomowoc..Either way, the Pewaukee "boys" are gonna be chewing some shoe come Sat night..

Ben, good to see your stepping up to fish Okauchee. I thought you would for sure fish your main lake(Oconomowoc).
Or are you looking to add additional lakes to help gang up on the Pewaukee crew.
Either way your going to be chewing up that tough old shoe you were talking about and choking on it. LOL

As for a little wager---We will talk Friday night, bring your wallet. Let the fun begin!!!

As far as the Muskies Inc chapter tourny, that will not be part of this. Only 1 fish was caught in that Muskies Inc tourny last year from Saturday to Sunday at noon.

We will have a group of names that are fishing each lake and that will be the compitition. Pewaukee vs Okauchee

I figured maybe it would even things out acre wise, since pewaukee has enough spots to park almost every boat in SE WI and Okauchee has only 17. I doubt it will matter though, seeing how you guys dont have much of a crew to gang up on in the first place...Just a bunch of old geezers from what I can see. If guys get some young blood on your squad you MIGHT have a shot at second place...LOL

Ok Ben, since it's my birthday today I will be nice and give you guys other lakes. Okauchee and Oconomowoc against Pewaukee. Now there is not a chance for anyone to say Pewaukee Lake has the upper hand.

We now have the most presured lake agaist the mighty Okauchee and the sleeper Oconomowoc Lake, you got a miss match. Are you happy now Ben? LOL You guys got JOEL the machine on your team. I may have to convert him over to the Extreme Team.

Pewaukee crew will still kick a$$, I have faith in the boys we got here.

Hey Professor Koepp, maybe you need to start worrying. I nailed down my seat for the opener. And guess what?

Joel is so confident in his abilities that he's taking ME in his boat. Seems he's willing to tie one arm behind his back. I'm thinking we'll catch the larger twin sisters of the one he put me on last November.

Probably by about 9:00 am.

Looks like Smokey's on Friday night might be pretty interesting as the contest gets organized. I hope we can get a lot of guys there on Friday, because it looks like its going to be really different there from last year.

More on that late this week.

Kevin, I never worry about the uncontrolable. What I can tell you is Friday night will be very fun and full of hype, beer, food and good fiends.

As for the outcome of the Pewaukee Lake vs Okauchee. I would hope you guys can keep up with the Pewaukee Boys. I know I am going to cut loose and score a bunch of muskie in my boat. Good luck to all the others who are going to fish on Okauchee.

I am sure Joel will get a fish or two with the Hopefull One but that will only allow them to MAYBE hang against the Extreme One. Let the smack talk roll......

Mike, I decided that I will fish with one hand behind my back and only use jigs and flies. That ought to even it out.

Now, what happens if we use a 40" size limit? Would that even the score? I don't think that we can catch anything under 40 on the Krotch, and I don't think you can catch anything OVER 40 on Pewee. Hmmmmm, that sounds like some smack. heh heh heh. I'm ready for the opener. As the East Comptone Clovers say, "Bring It!!" (too much TBS this weekend)

I got two that size last opener. Well a 39 3/4 on Saturday to take everyones money in the big fish pot. Didn't I take a $10 spot from you also Joel. Sunday the extreme rig got a 40, 38, 36 and 35. All after a 11am start.

The Big O-krotchie will give up a few and kick a few guys in the a$$. Most will be telling story of the ones they could have, should have, caught. Even on a smaller fish lake we will take the crotch boys down. Those big fatties will tease most and maybe a cross eyed fattie will get stuck by a bass guy and you guys can ask for a quick picture.

Dude, that's a great idea. You better hope we don't have a nice and sunny windless day dude. Cause if we do, I'm gonna be calling you every half hour.

So by my figures, this is how you scored last year then Mike:
39.5 = 0 points
38 = 0 points
36 = 0 points
35 = 0 points
40 = Lucky

That's not gonna cut it this year. heh heh heh

Joel, you will not even have to charge you phone for that day. You will not see "low battery" all weekend.

So now it's two lakes against one and the fish have got to be over 40? What happened to lake vs lake?

There were only a few muskies boated last year on Okauchee on opening day last year. Nasty cold. IMTT team of the year Team Kev (Kevin Moore/Kevin Rand) had a 37" and 42" by 6:30 a.m. Having won tournaments on each of these lakes - Team Kev will be on Okauchee this year - seperate boats. I'll pass on the Pewaukee nursery for awhile. I will be guiding Pete Barber - Muskies Inc. International treasurer. I think it should be biggest fish - you want numbers go to Pewaukee. See ya out there. Okauchee has come a long way since I let that first one go on opening day 1983.

I think it should be biggest fish - you want numbers go to Pewaukee.

Good to see you step up to the plate Kevin. If it was biggest fish I would go to Okauchee and hang suckers all day. Thats a no brainer. With two fish by 6:30am last year I sure hope you can post a few pictures this opener to help out your lake. That way we know it was not just a fluke opener last year for you. LOL:-O

As for the Pewaukee vs Okauchee why does everyone want to add other lakes like Oconomowoc and change it to largest fish? Okauchee can keep up with Pewaukee by points easily. You just got to catch them.

What is wrong with using the Muskies Inc point system that rewards you for larger fish with way more points. With all the very good sticks who are already going to fish Okauchee do you need a handycap? Are you telling me that Okauchee can't keep up to Pewaukee in points(numbers vs larger fish) when we get done with the Opener weekend points totals.

All I was looking to do is get some friendly lake against lake compition going between friends and internet associates.

So, lets get the friendly ripping, smack talk, and lake bashing going.........

Kevin, your a good stick and have fished Okauchee for years. You might beable to help the others come up with a few fish. I don't want to hear about your "guide job" excuse as to why you couldn't help with a few fish. LOL;

Also, remember that all the Muskies Inc people from the Milwaukee Chapter vs the Flatlanders will be out on Pewaukee Lake. That is a lot of presure for us to fish against. Now take all the other muskie fishermen who are going to be pounding Pewaukke Lake. Okauchee will no way have that much muskie fishing presure. Maybe more bass fishermen.

Bottom line is: We meet at Smokey's Muskie Shop on Friday afternoon for some smack talk, beer, food and fun. Smokey's will be shutting down at 10pm. Everyone can spill over to the Waterfront for more pre-fishing prep talks and fun.

Pewaukee vs Okauchee We will figure out the points after all the fish are counted and posted. A picture would be great for the results post but this is a friendly tourny. If it's in the best interest of the fish, no picture is needed.

I will add anyone who posts here to the list if they post which lake they will be fishing. Please check back to see who is fishing where and add your name to the list. I will edit the list as people post their real names, screen names and lake they will be fishing on.

Everyone planning to fish Waukesha County, or even those just willing to attend the Friday gathering, should keep their eyes on this board early this coming week for more info. To use a phrase I worked to death last year....

"I have a plan."

And it's a good one. Just a detail or two to iron out. Wait 'til you see the rig I'll be towing.

Kevin

Stay tuned.

It's been four openers in a row that we scored - last year I scored trolling a crankbait - Kevin Rand's was caught casting through a school of baitfish with a crankbait. The year before (2005 opener) we were successful on Oconomowoc.
K Rand will be on and off the water early - can't stay all day. I'll be out all day with my lucky client - he's boated a couple of 46 - 47 inchers with me.

Dave, I will add John to the list. Your welcome to stay at my house or at the cottage with Jason, Shep, Jomusky, and a few others.

Kevin, I would hope you could score every opener. This year you will have some added incentive, you now have to score since you stepped up and bragged about all your sucess. Kind of like I am now on the spot for the opener. Time to get serious and stick some fish this opener. Lets have some fun.

The date is the Southern Opener, May 5th and 6th. Food and Pre-Opener party is the 4th. As for room for boat sluts. My rig will be full all weekend with my brothers or my kids. The opener is family tradition for me.

Anyone that might have an open spot could post, e-mail or private message someone who asks. I'm sure anyone who is looking for a boat to catch a ride in would be glad to buy suckers, lunch or drinks. I will be gald to help out anyone who has not been on Pewaukee with info and hot patterns. Okauchee info would have to come from one of those "other guys". Just follow Joel around, that would be a good start.

50". Yep. That's right. 50". Here's a little algebra for you.

Michel's skills + Dunn's smoked pork enhanced mojo = 50" fish.

The only real smoking that will be going on after the BBQ will be the Pewaukee boys kicking some O-Krotch-EE tail. Kevin, I am sorry to have to put a hurting on you so soon after you made this BBQ party possible. The battle is almost here.

So cool we will all be together to eat, drink and be merry the night before the opener. I sure hope some of you Okauchee boys will score. We don't want to feel bad posting all our pictures and rubbing it in.

I have not even got my batterys in my boat yet. By now I usually have a bunch of muskies spotted. No shineing this year for me. Going out for the first time on Friday night to look around. Lot's of presure for me to score now that I started this post. We shall see what I got when the weekend comes. I am going to do my best to hang with everyone. Who knows, I might even score a fish. Glad you can make it Gene. I will add you to the Pewaukee list. We are outnumbered and Pewaukee will have way more fishing presure BUT we will prevail. Who knows, one of us my score the largest fish of the weekend. Now that would be a kicker to rub in along with the most fish caught.

I will be on Pewaukee, with Lazer, his bro, and BBQ King Shawn, in the new Tuffy 1890. They should rename this boat to 1890 Rocketship. Too bad Pewaukee has a speed limit. This boat doesn't. hehehe

I ain't talking any smack here, but what the heck. With the sticks that will be on Pewaukee, we'll be able to hear the groans of defeat all the way from Okauchee, come Sunday eve, when the final tally is in!

I hope you recent additions are planning on attending the BBQ on Friday, too. Shredder and Musky24 you have PMs.

Come to the BBQ. Netman is bringing a bunch of smoked salmon (which I will be eating in large chunks) to go with the pork and chicken. We need more eaters.

Plus, when Koepp gets full of beer and food he's going to give away all his good spots on Pewaukee. LOL.

8:00!!!! That's waaaaaay to late for me. My daughter might be up til 8, but I'll be out by 7 at least. Mike's giving me too much credit.

I'll be well rested so the victory shots at 5:30 will be easy to handle, and 6, and 6:15..... etc.

Dude, what firepower. It's like 2352 boats on Pewaukee vs 10 on Okauchee. You'll need more boats on Pewaukee to defeat us as well. It takes alot of 30"ers to beat the fish we'll be catching.

It talked to Joel this morning and he told me our PLAN of attack for Saturday.

WOW. We gonna catch some fishies. Bigguns, too.

I love a good plan. I always have. Even if it means I have to get up a TAD earlier than I'm used to. Or not go to bed at all from the night before. At least I'll be well fed, but so will the Pewaukee Posse.

My pan is to have a great time with everyone at Smokey's Muskie Shop on Friday nite. Saturday will be a blast with all the boats everywhere you look. The numbers will not lie as to where the best sticks fish. Size might go to Okauchee because the forage is way better. Now we got Dennis doing a guide job on Pewaukee with his lucky clients I feel there is no hope for the Okauchee boys.

Maybe we should spot the boys to the north a few fish so they will have some points to show for their effort.

Just go out and have fun this whole weekend everyone and we will sort out the fish and points later. I want to wish everyone a sucessfull opening weekend. See everyone at Smokey's.

Good luck to all..............Lets ROCK these two lakes this weekend!!!

Due to circumstances beyond my control my partner can't make it for the opener because of a family commitment that just came up. I'm still going to make it to the Q but am asking if anyone has any room in their boat for the opener? I'm willing to help pay for gas, launch, or drinks at the bar. Even willing to give some Smitty Baits if you'd like, (I'm on his pro staff). Does'nt sound to desperate does it. Have'nt done an opener in 2 years and finally have time off to do one. So if anyone has room and is looking for a partner send a pm, I'd make it worth your while. Thanks all......

27#, caught on my Bass baitcaster, with 12# test Trilene XL. Chased it for 15 minutes with the trolling motor. What a rush!!

DaveJ and I boated a 37 incher 10 minutes into the season on Pewaukee. We received a frantic call from my neighbor Bill Mann that he caught a big one and needed help. We headed to Bill and he stuck a nice fat 46.5 on a sucker. Pictures should be posted soon.

Team Kev scored - Kevin Moore's client Pete Barber boated a 34"er
Kevin Rand with a 38"
Raised a bunch including a ridiculously big fish that would have really made my day.
Fish had fresh spawning bite wounds.

Casey, Shawn, Shep, and I had a solid day out on Pewaukee. The action started off hot with us raising 2 fish and hooking up with 2 others in the first hour. Both of those fish came un-pinned but it was nice to get some action right off the bat. It slowed down quite a bit until just after lunch. Shep boated a low thirties around 1pm on a twitchbait and Casey followed that up around 2:30pm with a 39" that ate a bucktail in the 8. We raised a few other fish but no takers. Surprisingly, all of our action came on artificials with not so much as a sniff on the suckers. I can't wait to get out tomorrow and hopefully bag my first of the year. It sounded like everyone at least saw a few fish out on Pewaukee with a few nice fish boated.

What a great opener on both lakes. Some hawgs caught and seen. Nice fish and story on Okauchee. Also great job to JJ on his 49, we should just call him Mr Big Fish from now on because he is always on big fish.

This was the first opener my brother and I didn't boat a legal muskie. I had 11 fish up on baits, my brother didn't cast, he was sucker boy all day because his back was hurt. I toosed a Baby Wabull almost all day(9am till 5pm). What a great bait. Lost a mid 40's at the boat when she decided to charge the boat with her head out of the water and mouth wide open. That one hurt. Shook off an upper 20's shaker that t-boned a sucker. It's funny how hard it is to get a fish to drop a sucker when you want them too and to get them to eat one when you want to catch them. Plenty of chance to score some good fish but we didn't get er done yesterday. I am bummed out that me and my brother broke our opener streak. I don't remember the last time I got skunked. Thats fishing.

Going out this afternoon with my daughter and her boy friend. I slept in this morning because of a little too much fun last nite. Going to get a fish or two hopefully this afternoon. With this much wind for a few days it should stack some fish up in predictable spot. A 4 footer and some low to mid 40's are just waiting for us if they didn't get popped this morning. I sure would like to get my daughter one of those fish.

Here is what I know of from Pewaukee Lake so far as of this noon Sunday.

1-33, 3-34's, 5-35's, 2-37's, 46.5. I have not talked to many of the guys fishing this Sunday am. I also know of a 51-incher that Jerry got out of the river. Huge head and skinny.

Twitching, glide baits and suckers were the best producers. Suckers got the bigger fish.

I hope everyone had a great opener, I know it was fun for me and my brother with all the action. Every spot we worked I moved fish. With the water temps in the mid 50's the fish will start getting more active soon. Good luck to everyone!!!

Pretty slow for us on Pewaukee. Didn't get on the water until 4:10 and fished until dark. Lost one nice fish in almost the same spot as Shep's fish... she charged the boat and came unglued.

Great time the whole weekend was rocking (wind wise). Sanks and I went out again Sunday morning and couldn't even fish the North side of the lake, it was rocking so bad. But we did move some active fish on the East end, nothing for the net but saw 6 fish.

I want to thank Mike, Kevin and Sean for the Friday food, that smoker rocks and SMOKIES for letting us all get together.

Still a virgin this year but with all the fish I saw it's just a matte rof time....

The fish were going this afternoon. I caught a low thirtys and my daughter stuck a 3 footer. We raised 13 fish and blew a few good follows. Very windy and only could fish a few of the spots we were looking to fish.

I also want to say thanks to Sean, Kevin and Smokey's Muskie Shop for the eats and refreshmants on Friday. What a great weekend!!!

Well boys could have bolstered Okauchees numbers but lost a fish on a sucker early saturday looked to be 34" and lost another on a sucker at 2:30. Unlucky I guess! Raised lots of fish 10-12 or so with a few forties mixed in turning away before the boat. Sunday was Better for us seeing big fish. We fished half the morning scott raised a nice fish early and I had a low forties that wouldn't bite on the figure eight, Had the #*^@ bait right on her snout two times during what seemed like a 3 minute figure eight. Good luck to all that fish this week and thanks to the men who provided us with food friday night.

Bruce, if we were counting northerns I would have set some sort of record.
Only got the one barred fish, missed another good fish on a sucker (should have jumped out of the boat and grabbed it) and saw some others of varying size from the low 30's to mid 40's. All in all a day that made me very sore by the end of it.

Got my first weagle fish of the year yesterday and had 3 others do all they could to eat it, but just didn't get hooked. Man, how do I make it through the work day thinking of this stuff.

As for Ellie, she's gonna make a good fisherchick someday. She apparently was having a good time cause she was smiling the whole time. Guess she knew she was in good company. Or, she couldn't believe how funny looking Bruce is. LOL

Pewaukee kicked out over 30 fish and Okauchee kicked out 5 or 6 that I know of. Thats 5 to 1 on the fish count. 46.5 was the biggest Pewaukee fish and 49 was the biggest Okauchee fish. I only stuck 2 fish in the boat Sunday(32 and 36), so my opener was slow for catching but raised almost 30 total for the weekend. Slept in Sunday and fished from 2pm till dark with my daughter and her boyfriend.

Total weight and numbers easily went to Pewaukee. Trophy lake potential goes to Okauchee with some quality fish. Just about exactly what we all expected who know both lake.

I figured most people were sick of this post so I was going to just let is fade away. This Pewaukee vs Okauchee post was started to get us through the last month of pre season. Lots of good ol fun tossing some jabs around to keep the sanity. I hope no one took this post out of content. It was all in fun and almost everyone who posted knows each other and are friends. Me and Joel did the most talking and we are matchfishing partners on this site.

All in all a very good weekend for both lakes. Congrats to those who caught fish and some good ones. John sent me the picture of the 46.5 and his 37-incher. I just have been so buisy with work(with no computer at work) and guide jobs after work evey nite, that I figured he would post them since he took them.

The effects of the spawn has slowed the action some but it will get rocking soon. Got to go get a muskie or two.................See ya
