| Hi to all
I am experiencing a problem with my RCN 61. When I tighten up my star drag and then pull the line to test for tension the reel slips and makes a slipping/grating noise. I have stripped it down and nothing looks out of place, oil/grease all in the proper places. I hope somebody can help me.
regards

I had my own issues with an Abu Garcia Record this year also. I sent the reel back to their reel service center, and am getting a replacement under warranty. Garcia has always treated me and others I know very well for warranty issues. |

| What is slipping on the reel when you pull drag out? |

If you've stripped the reel down, did you remember to put the little circlip on the top of the post after you put the handle back on?

Otherwise check to make sure the drag washers didn't get grease or oil on them, but it sounds like you already checked that. Lots of people have posted that abu has great service, so I'd give them a call. |

| The spool slips in a jerky noisy fashion as I pull on the line and tightening the star drag creates a little resistance but the spool still slips and make an awful grating sound. Braid is filled onto the line but it is not slipping on the reel. And the circlip is back on top of the reel handle. So I dont know what it could be.

| Sounds like mine when the IAR went out. Box it up with a note telling them what it's doing and if they replace the reel you would like to keep your spool so you get your line back. |

| I have took it apart cleaned it regreased oiled it and the same problem arises. I took off the side of my other RCN 61 and placed it onto the broken one and the slipping stopped, so its getting sent back for repairs.
many thanks for your help.

Location: London, England | Did you degrease the AR bearing, which is mounted in the side plate. I expect that it's contaminated with oil or grease. Should be either completely dry or at most a very tiny amount of very thin oil. |

| I also have had great service from Garcia. In my case they went above and beyond. You sure don't see that enough these days.
My Record worked well all last year taking a beating. |

| I would take it down to the Post Office and pay the $4.00 it costs to ship it to Abu and have it done right, to me it seems like a good investment of $4.00. |

Location: Wisconsin Rapids, WI | When it comes to Abu reels, I'd definitely listen to Tim Kelly. Give it a shot (degreasing the AR bearing), it should only take a couple of minutes, then you'll know. If that doesn't work you can still send it in..... |
