Anyone familiar with Goldmine Resort on the Vermilion River? You can PM me with a reference if you like. I know it's not considered a musky haunt but a friend is considering staying there. Personal experience is the best (or worst) adverstisement. Thanks for any help.

I have heard bad things, especially with the lower water up there the past few years. Heard a guy complain about low, weed choked waters. Overall fishing doesn't sound impressing for that area

I believe the resort is pretty high up in the system. Say, just below the falls of Big V. Brouchure states about 17 miles of fishable water. How about the resort? Does anyone have any feedback about the way the camp is run? Does anyone have an opinion about the way the guests are cared for? PM me if you like or e-mail at <[email protected]>. I'm not interested in bashing anyone in a public forum. I just want your input for my friend's personal use.
Thanks for your feedback, Brian.

Hey Steve,
Regardless of the resorts reputation I would rethink a trip to the Vermilion river, unless he has a jet boat.

Water levels up here are extremely low and we haven't had much snow. Even with good water the river is a maze of hazards that can eat your lower unit.

If he's coming this far anyway, he may as well fish on the lake. If cost is the issue, I can give him a list with some of the more reasonably priced resorts on Lake Vermilion.

Hi Ace my friend! I wondered if you'd check in.
I feel the same way as you. I just thought other people weighing in would help him make a little more educated decision before he started writing checks. I'm sure the river is beautiful when the conditions are right but the lake is always navigable and the fishing speaks for itself.
If you'd like to recommend some affordable camps on either end of the lake that would be great. As you recall we stay with Joe and Jenny at Muskego which is a little pricey. Post here or shoot me an e-mail (see above). We are staying 2 weeks this year so Jake and I will have to give you a shout and see if we can hook up again. Thanks for your help! Say hi to Tommy for me. We'd like to meet him in person too and maybe jam on the guitars a little. We traded some guitar pics with him and that was fun.
Best regards from Indiana,
Steve

Hey Steve,
Here is that list of the most affordable resorts on Big V.

Timbuktu marina, 218-666-2434

Whispering Winds resort, 800-964-6306
www.whisperingwindresort.com

Voyageur Cove resort
800-721-8044 or go to www.voyageurcove.com

Pine trees resort, 218-753-4818

Shamrock marina, 218-753-5457 or go to, www.shamrock-marina.com

Trancheff's cabins,
218-753-2411

Forest lane resort,
800-826-6070 or go to www.forestlaneresort.com

Your buddy should be able to find a place to stay that he can afford at one of these. There are a few west end and a few east end locations.

Say hello to Jake for me, I hope we get to fish together this summer. I just got a bigger boat last fall.

Ace
What's that building behind Timbuktu ? It looks like some sort of 4 story factory on the shorline, do you know what they manufacture there.

They have a marina there as well as a resort. I think that is their storage and
repair shed. I doubt if there is any kind
of manufacturing going on in that building, at least none that I know of.

I did some business there last July and Ace is right. It's just marina storage and repair shop. Good people there by the way.
