The Wisconsin Muskie Tour (WMT) will be hosting the 2007 season ending Invitational Championship on Sand/Dam Lake Chain in Eagle River on September 29th and 30th. The top 66 teams that competed during the WMT's regular season will be fishing for over $300,000.00 in cash and prizes that will available during the Invitational.

For the second year in a row, the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce and Heckel's Marina has worked together with the WMT to bring the Invitational Championship to the Eagle River area. The WMT feels fortunate to be returning to Eagle River for our Championship as it is the best venue, in all of muskie fishing, to host a tournament. The people of Eagle River has always welcomed the WMT and their competitors with open arms, and with all of the great muskie fishing that surrounds the community, it makes for the perfect muskie fishing experience.

The tournament's on site headquarters will be Pitlick's Sand Beach Resort on Sand Lake off of HWY D, just miles west of Eagle River. Spectators are welcome to visit with the tournament anglers and witness the heart pounding excitement that is synonymous with muskie fishing. The tournament hours will run from 6:30am to 4:30 pm on Saturday the 29th and 6:30am to 12:30pm on Sunday. The awards and meeting location will be hosted at the Heckel's Marina supper showroom from the 27th to the 30th.

In 2006, the WMT introduced the "Muskie Grand Slam" that would reward a team with an additional $100,000.00 cash bonus and a ten year paid exemption that had a future earning potential of over $4,700,000.00 for the winning team. And at the WMT's 2006 Invitational Championship, the team of Phil Schweik and Pete Hilman entered the tournament with a legitimate chance of taking home the rewarding "Muskie Grand Slam", and the big money, but came up just short of the mark. The WMT is once again offering the "Muskie Grand Slam" for the 2007 season but will also introduce the "Muskie Triple Crown", that would pay a bonus of $30,000.00 and a three year paid exemption worth an extra $18,000.00 to the team who wins a Major Open Championship, wins the "Lapp Trophy" and the Invitational Championship. The "Lapp Trophy" (team of the year) will once again reward consistency with a pay http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-post.asp?fid=1&... of $5,000.00 at the WMT's Championship weekend. Over the years, the WMT's Invitational Championship has gained the reputation as the most prestigious muskie tournament in the world of competitive muskie fishing, and this years competitors will be competing for a $40,000.00 first place prize (all qualifying tournaments must fill to capacity to award the full amount).

For the fist time, the WMT will be introducing the Tommy Docks "Muskie Trifecta" that will be guaranteeing a $2,000.00 bonus at the Championship to the team that registers the biggest muskie, catches the first muskie, and wins the Championship, but the pay out could be as high as $24,000.00 for the team who captures the Tommy Docks "Muskie Trifecta". In addition, for the second year in a row, a big bonus of $10,000.00 can be won at the Championship by the team who wins the "Heckel's Cup". For more details on the "Heckel's Cup" and other bonuses, log on to the WMT's web site at www.WMTseries.com .

The WMT is a catch and release only muskie tournament that host 21 events throughout the state of Wisconsin. A team can fish one tournament or as many as they like. With the low entry fees of $300 per team per event, and the high pay out of over 100% in cash and prizes, the WMT has become the most popular muskie circuit on the planet.
