With the hooks on a Shallow Invader being so close together, has anyone ever tried to go with just one treble? Maybe removing the front one and putting a bigger one on the rear hanger?

I have one that I either need to replace the front hook hanger or try going with just one hook. I'm thinking if I go with a 6/0 as the only hook it might be just as effective. Thoughts?

Twist up a bit of .051" wire with a loop at each end, attach one end to the front hanger split ring and cable tie the wire to the rear hanger. The other loop on the wire can be an inch or two further back, under the rubber tail and put the rear hook on that. Makes the bait twitch a little better too having a bit of weight further towards the tail. There are photos of this tip I put up on Lurefishing.nl (if it's still going?) a few years ago. Originally I threaded the wire through the rear hanger, but it's easier to cable tie it.

Thanks Tim. I believe I saw a picture of one of your modifications before. Maybe it's the one you referred to? At any rate, I'm actually wondering if just one larger treble would do the job because my front hook hanger is no longer functional. Basically, I don't have one. So I would need to replace that hanger just to use your suggestion. I don't trust my own tinkering to do that without ruining the bait or causing it to leak. If all else fails maybe I will give it a try.

Thanks,
Aaron

Sorry Aaron, missed that bit! One big hook or buy a new bait then. Mind you, they're very cheap at your shop, and you might even get a staff discount , so it's not a big deal!
