| im going Muskie fishing for the first time when the season opens, and would like some suggestions as to what type of lures and colors are good for early spring. The lake im fishing on is extremely clear. It has alot of sand and rock bottom, and a few DNR cribs scattered on the lake. The deepest holes in the lake is appx. 26-28ft deep. Any suggestions would really help. |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I would say perch patterns, gold, yellow, and brown would be top for my choices. I fish clear lakes almost exclusively and in the spring, nothing seems to beat a 6 inch grandma with gold prism tape... The perch stripes wear off . I would also look at smaller spinners (mepps mini Marabou or Lillytails come to mind).
Depending on how bright things are, a hot tiger color could be good too..

| I would stick with natural patterns on cranks/jerks. Sucker, cisco, and other baits with WHITE BELLIES. As far as bucktails go, silver blades with natural or blk/white color bucktails. Over the years, at least for me, "hot" patterns only attracted the small pike. Kdawg |

Location: Otsego, MN | I like natural colors, and on really bright days anyting that gives off a lot of shine, the fish can see that shiny bait coming a long ways away. |

Location: Boulder Junction | I like a very light jig with a large hook and a 4-6" sucker minnow fished alive. No it is not artificial but you can sight fish and hook muskies in the lip. It's very low impact on the fish in my experience. Also very effective. If you are not into live bait, soft plastics can be equally good (black, silver, white, etc) |

Location: big cove tannery pa | Smaller cranks and inlines r the ticket. Natural patterns on the cranks and nickel blades with either black or white bucktail or marabou is good, also bright color flashabou works. |
