| I have made a couple baits in the past but always painted them black with a can a spray paint. I look at these baits you guys do and really want to give it a try. I am curious what type of air brush you guys use and what kind of paint (laquer, water based, ect.. ) you use. Are air brushes easy to use mechanically or just artistically? Any help would be great. | |

Location: Muskoka Ontario,Canada | Great questions and welcome to the site. Airbrushes can be your best friend and your worst nightmare all in one! If you do decide to pick one up I highly suggest the Iwata Eclipse series and in particular the HP-BS or HP-CS models. Both are dual action meaning you push down for air and pull back for paint. There are single action brushes but a dual action will be worth the learning curve and you will be able to grow into its capabilities instead of being held back.
The most important thing with airbrushes is keeping them CLEAN! Even a tiny buildup of dried paint can cause the brush to spray poorly or not at all. As long as you keep it clean and lubricated, they are so much better for painting lures than spray cans. I use Createx for the most part which is ready to spray. you can thin it out further with a clear medium to give finer control of fine lines at a lower pressure. Having a quality compressor that provides a steady airflow is a must and worth the investment if you want great results. Hope this helps. | |
