I finished this chub/darter. 10" crank with a thinner body profile. I think this one is my favorite so far. It has a foil base with sanding of the paint after paint dries.

| I get the same effect as this lure by using stainless screening and putting a thin coat of epoxy on then painting. After the paint dries I hit it with fine sand paper to remove the paint from the high points which exposes the bright stainless. Bass screening works great to. Looks like you do pretty much the same thing. Very nice |

Guest you have caught my interest on the screening. I would not have to worry about sand throughs. Where might you get screening like that? Do you have to put much epoxy down on the base coat?

Location: Burton, Ohio | Thanks everybody, This bait thing has really got me sucked in. I see what you mean about it taking ahold of the wheel and driving you forward. So many GREAT maker out there. I have learned so much from you guys. My wife thinks I have a girl friend. Then she see's that I am on a baitmaking forum!
I did do a couple of others also in the same style. I would like to share. I really like it when I get to the painting part. The other steps seem to drag on at times. It almost stresses me out.

| Great work but I want to point out one thing Tigger...look at a real fishes eyes.....your putting yours in backwards. The small point of the pupil should be forward and pointed up slightly. Very nice work thou. |

On some fish the eyes look round also. Is there any rule of thumb? Just curious. I want to get them right! LOL
Nate and Snax, those segmented baits are incredible. I am thinking of trying one. I don't know where to start. I was in the stock room at the cabinet shop looking at hinges! LOL.

| I have a long ways to go but here is my completed attempt at a foil bait. Tigger best of luck with the swimbaits, they take time but if you don't mind that the end result is pretty cool.

Location: Burton, Ohio | Nate that is really neat! I like how you stagger the joints. That makes alot of sense. You have alot of depth of finish on that. I love the head also. I am glad to see that my fingers aren't the only ones that have paint on them! LOL
Nate how did you get into making baits? Are you a college student?

| I started making baits, on and off when I was about 12, just out of boredom. Made musky baits through high school and college (spraying lures in the frat house made for some interesting times). I graduated college in 2004 but have chosen to pursue a different career path, so I am anticipating going back for a Masters this fall. Thanks for the compliments, this foiling stuff should get interesting. |

| No Tigger not Jed but I have used Taxidermy eyes before on fish. Just though I'd point it out. You may want to put them backwards for your trademark or something. Nate sure makes a nice bait also. |
