Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | First off I need to thank Al Warner, whom without his help I may not have recieved the level of service one might expect. A while back I posted a thread about a GPS emergency which affected my Garmin hand held. Due to the age of the unit I realized that I may not achieve my ultimate goal of having the unit fully restored to a sevicable condition. What at very least I was hoping for would have been the recovery of the stored waypoint data from the unit. The unit itself has been out of production for some time and similarly not considered servicable. As I said, considering the age of the unit I didnt have my sights set too high and expected a "programmed" response. Al read about my situation and decided to get involved and applied his personal knowledge and experience in the electronics field. After an e-mail or two to Garmin, I/we were advised by Brian MacMahon at Garmin Intl.'s Product Support to send the unit in. The fact that it was a Garimn product I thought it was still worth the effort. Mr. MacMahon was very up-front in making no guarantees due to the age of the unit though he wrote," we are willing to try." After what I had gone through in trying to get my unit serviced, that was what I really all I wanted to hear. Obviously Brian had the value of a satisfied customer in mind when he opted to proceed with my GPS unit. It was sent to Garmin and in short order I had a response from Mr MacMahon that they were in in fact able to return the unit to where I could recover the data. I was also advised as to which accessories could be used with the unit to download the data myself which I didnt know was possible with that unit. Mr MacMahon returned the unit once again in working order. In know that I got lucky and based on the age of the unit and dont know if I will continue to use the unit in critical situations. I will most likely retire the unit and move on to some of the newer advanced GPS products Garmin is offering. I have had the opportunity to check some out a couple of shows already and I'm impressed with how far their technology has come. I know the market is very competetive with various companies putting out quality products. Some better than others. What I feel is a huge selling point in such a market is the level of customer service AND customer satisfaction. Garmin has capitalized on this in my situation. Kudos to Garmin from a SATISFIED long time customer.
