Location: Rhinelander, WI | Had an excellent meeting with the Hodag Musky Challenge committee last night. They are diligently working on modifying the rules for Pelican Lake so the tourney can continue having Pelican as one of the Lake Families even with the new 50” limit, that will go into effect in 2007.
The goal is to institute judge boats on Pelican while eliminating the possibility of giving the 60 +/- people fishing Pelican an unfair advantage or disadvantage.
Basically the rules will be exactly the same other than having to transport fish to a registration station. The registration station will come to the fisherman. Fish 34 inches and larger will be registered and only two fish per team per day will be allowed to be measured.
The committee is working out the details and should have them ironed out by the end of February, they have an excellent handle on many of the potential issues.
I think they should be applauded for taking the extra effort to modify their tourney format to accommodate the new 50” limit.
I know many people say forget the tourneys, they don’t matter; I believe it’s important for everyone to work together and share the lakes and rivers. The meeting last night showed me that even people that disagree can come together and try and find solutions that work with everyone.
As one of the tourney directors stated last night we all have the same goal, to HAVE FUN musky fishing that should never be lost.
