Who drives what on the water and how do you like it...looking into buying a boat for my first one...just looking now but would like some input...I don't have a lot to spend so nothing more the $15,000...looking to get a used boat unless I can find a new one that has what I want for the price...tiller or single console...

There are some great deals on new and used boats. Take a close look at a couple of the used boats in the classified ads here. There some really nice boats there.

I'm going to love my New Tuffy 1890!

I run a Crestliner right now. Someday want to move to the 1890, but not right now according to the finance manager (aka wife). Anywho, the reason I went with this, is first off, they have a great price, second, I love the room on the front deck. I take it out on Lake Michigan and have no problems. The bad thing about these are the storage is not so dry. Oh well. We're fishing, stuff gets wet. Another plus is it's relatively light to pull behind the ride, except on a full tank of gas.

MM, It's a 1750. I couldn't fit the 1850 in the garage, so had to downsize.
Still has lots of room though, and planes out super fast.

Look hard enough, and you'll find a good boat deal for that.

I sold a 1 year old Crestliner 1850 Fish Hawk with a 150 Suzuki for something like $15,500. This boat wasn't trashed and I would have rated it as a 9 out of 10.

Deals are out there, you just need to find somebody who is willing to sell you a boat for the right price not one where they are looking to make crazy money off a boat that isn't worth that much.

Also I run a Polar Kraft 1910 SC. Best aluminum boat I have ever fished out of, drove, been in or owned.

Got a "98" Ranger 690. great boat, perfect interior layout, handles big water and small water alike. Although the newer ones (late 90's) are pretty hard to find. As stated above there are alot of nice boats listed on this site, i found mine on this site.

Love my Ranger, 1999 519 225 merc opti I have owned a lot of boats and they all seemed to be pretty good but none has compared with the ride I have now. If you can find an older model 519 you will be happy with it. The new one is smaller and is only rated for 200 ponies.

bn,

Sorry i dont have a digital camera nor a scanner. Planning on getting a digital camera this spring. But, thumbnail pictures are still in the classifieds on this site, around June 2006. Post picture of yours or post in my mail, i would like to see it. I am very happy with my 690, it has big fish mojo also, been die hard musky fishing since 1992, and finally got one over 50" on LOTW in my 690's maiden voyage to Canada. It was the first musky to slime my new Ranger, pretty awesome, followed up with a 48 in Wisconsin the following week, and several over 40 the rest of the year. Man, i really need a digital camera.

Scott,

Yes, thats the one. Thanks for putting it up. Im not to computer savy.

Brad,
pretty close to the same, mine has a darker interior and trailor, otherwise nearly identical. Oh ya, the color of the motor also. I thought i got a pretty good deal, hardly a scratch on it. He would not budge a bit on his price (not that i blame him) because he had eight people behind me that would take it site unseen. Glad i jumped on it right away. The black bottom was flawless (not a sratch) the prior owner was from Minn. and said he never pulled it up on shore. Being a Wisconsin Flowage fisherman i added a keel guard, because i will be pulling it up on shore. Did you take the Fisherman stickers off yours? if so, i think it looks better, and i may do the same. The only thing i need to figure out yet is how to tee the fuel lines together so i can run the big motor off the auxillary tank, because i dont use the kicker that often and i would like to burn that fuel so it doesnt get old over the coarse of the year.

Yah, I don't blame him for not budging...I ended up giving the guy that I bought mine for a 100 bucks more than he was asking as he had a guy coming the night I went and looked at it with the money...Mine is in great shape too..not barely a scratch...I did take the "fisherman" stickers off and like the way it looks without them....

We run a 2005 Fisher 170Hawk, with a 2006, 2 stroke 90 horse Merc. Same hull as a Tracker, but less in price. If anyone has ever had any compliants about our boat, it is that we do not have a kicker. 98" beam is plenty stable for us. If it fit in our budget, however, I'd be running with Muskymaj or Shep's ride.

Motorguide Wireless TM
Humminbird 917 sonar/gps on the dash

sitting behind that windshield is really really nice, especially going 60mph. i'm sure i'll like it even more when the rain and snow are blowing. good design places the windshield where it's not in the way of fishing at all.

I have an '01 Alumacraft MV Tex Special right now (bassboat) but my next boat will be a Stratos 176XT...I'm surprised no one else fishes out of a bassboat. A v-bottom is not necessary in Illinois, Iowa or most of Wisconsin, and its so much easier to fish out of a bassboat.

Schuler, I think a lot of people like having that kicker motor and take a trip or two up north every year. I would rather fish out of a bass boat than a v-bottom, but that kicker motor is something most anglers either need or feel comfortable having. What happens if the big motor goes out? Not only for lakes in Minnesota and Canada, but even on Shelbyville or Kinkaid it can be a big problem. Its probably better to have a smaller motor to troll with rather than using the big motor and use a bunch of gas. Not to mention the lakes in Illinois that have a horsepower restriction. They may be small, but having to use to trolling motor to get back to the launch into gusting winds is not fun and can take a long time. (been there)

btw...my boat isn't mentioned. Oh yeah thats because its a Northwood haha

PANTLEGGER, nice boat! What year is it?

If you are patient there are some good deals to be found, we got this lightly used 01' ranger with dual Electronics, 175hp V-max, and 18' in length for 15K I believe. Its not a deep V but I love it and fish it out on Mille Lacs and other big waters ok. What I really like is it goes 60 mph loaded with gear and carrying 3 people.

Running an 05 Skeeter SX180 with an 05 F115 4 Stroke. Couldn't ask for a better boat for what you pay..... Most of the lakes I fish are around 1000 acres and it is perfect. Handles big water great! Better than most would expect for a 17'8" bass boat.

48-50 mph no problem....... It makes a huge difference being close to the water while muskie fishing.

Dave, that one might be a little cool in PI this fall! Also, not much room for sucker rods.

2000 Ranger R83 with a Rude 150. Just bought it over winter for $11,900. There are deals out there, especially off season. Added a Lowrance 520 to it and I'm good to go. Sure is nice after a 16.5 ft dual console Cajun that I had for the last 10 years. The rod locker would hold a 9 foot rod--if you broke it in half. Maybe a Snoopy pole, too.

bn ,been having a run of bad luck for quite some time now. Can't put my finger on it but I think it all started a few years ago when I ran into this big shot "MUSKY-HUNTER" on the water and I swindled him out of his lucky hat .Ever since then whenever I wear the thing the fish get scared and vacate the area.

Must have a curse on it or something!

LOL

Take r eazy

Yep the alumacraft is gone and I'm in the Ranger family. What a diffrence. I went down to flippin and watched it get built, VERY COOL.

As you can tell I've put a few miles on that visor ,check out that nasty sweat ring. Sorry the yammi visor was a dud .We did manage 3 fish in that tourney,2 shortys and a 38.Had a solid 4footer in Fawn follow an 8, 5 times and once around the entire boat.

take care
hope to see you on the water

Here's my new Tuffy 1890 GDC Esox. Low profile, easy to reach fish and work on them in the water/net, big water ride one can take to ANY water muskies swim, rated for 200 and will run great with a 115, this is the low profile super stable V I've been waiting for from Tuffy for years. Fishing three is easy, and the rear deck module holds a ton of tackle and comes out or installs in minutes using 4 built in fasteners.

Plenty of floor space for my Frabill and a couple boxes, too.

Sweet ride!
