Hello fishing finatics..
does anyone have some info on this lake they could post? like...How is the musky fishing? is it more of an action lake or more of a trophy fishery? (for muskies)
has anyone fished it for smallies, pike and walleye too?
thanks

Are you sure you don't mean Little vermilion? To my knowledge, although there are muskies in Big Vermillion its a very sparase population, barely fishable. While on the other hand, the Little Vermilion chain is loaded and is a numbers factory.

The spillway from Big V into Little V is the only place I have caught muskie on Big V. Little V, cederbough, maskinong hooch......are all great producers. Talk to the guys at Fireside Lodge, they may have some info on Big V.

We stayed at Moosehorn Lodge last year and spent a couple of days on Big Vermillion. We ended up boating three muskies with the biggest being a solid 43". I also lost a really nice tiger close to the boat. Weeds were the key for us as the 43" my father boated exploded on a Top Raider out of a small cupped bay filled with lilly pads in the middle of the day.

I stayed at Big Vermillion lodge for 10 years to fish lost lake (that was the week of fathers day right after musky season opened). I have not been on the lake for about 6 years. We used to bass fish till sunset after dinner and catch several skies on the lake while bass fishing. I was amazed at the amount of large skies we saw. In the mines I saw what looked like a 55 incher and on the flats I saw what looked like a 60 inch female with a 50 inch male next to it. they were doing the mating dance and not interested in anything we threw at them, but it was a sight to see!!!! it was the biggest fish I have ever seen in the water!! I have also seen a number of other middle to upper forties fish. There also seemed to be a large amount of fish.

The water is super clear! you could at times see 20 ft down into the water. Pretty to fish! Awesome shorelines! make sure you have a map or you will be buying yourself a new boat because of the reefs!

Good luck, if our trip can ever get back to fathers day weekend we will be spending a day hunting skies out there! Oh, if you get board there are huge smallies out there!

River Edge Outfitters is the place to stay on Big Vermillion lake. The cabins have all been rebuilt, prices are great, owners are fantastic (husband and wife named Cam and Ann). Been going there for many years and will keep doing so.

No walleyes. SM Bass are OK but not as big as the ones in Lac Seul. You cannot use live bait. Pike are there but have been reduced in numbers from years ago. Trout are the big draw locally, eaters, not trophies. Not an action lake for muskies. Lot of deep water and rocks with very limited weeds.

I fished it in late sept 2005. We stayed at moosehorn lodge on lac seul and were guided by big Brian out of the lodge. Very clear water. Our plan was to fish lac seul exclusively but wasnt happening so Brian moved us over to Big V for 2 of the days. I raised the biggest fish I have seen to date on an eddie off a rock bar, a real dandy. My partner got a super fat 43 on a bobbie, I got a nice 40 on a hawg wobbler, and a 38 on an eddie. We also raised another jumbo on a small eddie as well and raised some other fish. We fished it 2 half days. Great water. At the time , no live bait was allowed. I guess great smallie water and it has cisco, whitefish, and splake. We got a good pike on a jerk 36, and I got a number of 28-32 inch pike on mepps, cranes etc
