| Hi Pro's and others, looking for tips on log books. Are you using just the basic spiral notebook and ball point pen, or is there a better system out there that is more weather friendly?? I would like to start keeping a log book this season and can envision a big soggy mess that is unlegible.Thx. |

| I went to a book store and bought a journal notebook. A little more money, but it's heavy duty. You can purchase any size, I choose one I could put in a plastic gallon bag to keep dry.
Good luck, Murph |

| Best choice of all is a small pocket dictaphone. You can record all the basics into the unit. No paper to get wet or slimed, easy to store out of the way, and it won't blow out of the boat on you. Even hands free so you can record while you're measuring. Keep an extra 9V battery around, and a spare tape and you're laughing!
When you get home, just play. I often input into my muskie database at home directly off the recorder... no paper at all.

| I make my own on a computer spread sheet. I print out the form and then enter into the computer when completed. Then during the winter when boredom sets in I can sort the data out. It gives me a lot good new information and confirms a lot of what is already known about muskie fishing (i.e. storm fronts, etc.).

| I've been working on a database that uses Microsoft Access,
if anyone would like a copy, send me an email [email protected]
I guess it would be sorta beta testing it.. give me some feedback of what I need and what I don't need

| Hi Greg
I like the name. I use a normal legal pad the you can buy at your local convinent store. The information is the important not what you put it on! As long as you can read it and understand it must be ok.

| I've got a stack of note-books about knee high with over 20yrs of blood, sweat and tears of info in them, but I guess that soon I'll be in the computer age. My oldest daughter (I call her Joe college) is putting together a program with every day I have logged and she says once it's done all I have to do is get up and check the weather conds and time of year, punch them in(overcast/sunny/barometric preasure/etc)and the top ten matches over the years for that day will come up to compare which lakes and baits used that I did well on. Sounds neat and I'll give it a try, but I still think that my gut and what I've done in the few days prior to that day will dictate wear I'm going[;)] |

| I have always kept my records in a journal book. Over this winter I took ten years of fish catches and entered them into a data base, much like what Chuck is talking about. It is great! I will now make a computer fornm that will mimick the info I want for my data base. Just come home and enter it.
If you are interested in some of the specifics about starting a data base I wrote an article about it.
