I researched this topic before and now can't seem to locate it in any archives, thats what i get for not printing it off.[:0] I am in the market for a new good camera. I would prefer it to be waterproof, idiot proof (easy film loading and picture taking) and be able to run with a remote for my solo trips. I have done a little researh and have come up with the Canon ELPH and ELPH 49OZ. Anyone own one of these or can give me a recommendation for a different kind, I'm not stuck on this brand, that is just what I have found so far. Thx much.

I can't say enough about my Pentax. It has all the features you are looking for. It is 7 years old and has never failed me. Most of the pics on my site were taken with it.

I have to back up Jomusky on this one. I use a Pentax IQZ90WR for solo muskie trips and for when it is raining. I even dropped this camera over the side of the boat one day doing a release shot for a client, and I swam down about six or seven feet down to retrieve it, and the pics still turned out and the camera was fine. It has a detachable remote and takes the pic as soon as you push the button on the remote. Great little camera!!

I use an underwater camera made by Minolta. It uses the idiot proof advantix film loading (drop it in and close the hatch), is 100% waterproof (made for scuba divers), has an easy to use auto-timer for solo photos, is an obnoxious scuba diver YELLOW so it is easy to find on your boat floor during the chaos of a quick release, and retails for about $100. It has worked great for me.

I have lost lots of great photos over the years from condensation inside the camera by leaving it in the boat overnight. With this set-up you can use and abuse your camera without fear of failure.

I use an Olympus epic. Weatherproof, comes with a remote. Whole rig, 180 bucks, and I've never seen better photos.

Shepster, yoiu behave or we will sick slamR on ya.[]

Thx for the input guys, greatly appreciated. One thing I have noticed is flash recharge speed on some cameras. I dont like the idea of timers, most of them are 10 seconds, if wanting to get a couple shots (in case of not being lined up for solo shots), I am leary of the extra time it takes to "sit and wait".
The remote seems like a viable option to click instant pic's. Does the Pentax flash take a long time to recharge? Or can you click a couple pic's off right away?

Jo, thx again, I know you told me the model name before but didn't realize it had a remote option.

I too have a Pentex Zoom 90WR. Great camera, I don't think they make the 90 anymore, but are making a 110 zoom. The camera has been through hell and "High Water", and still keep taking great pictures.

Greg,

I have to back up the posts on Pentax, I use a pentax and have never had problems, also have a 23 year old pentax 35mm SLR and have never had it worked on. Canon makes a great product though. Just make sure your buying it from a place who will back up service if needed.

If you can't figure out how to use it Shep and I can come along and show you how to take pictures of OUR fish [] [:0] []

Greg,

Seriously, now. I have a Fuji that takes the Advantix film. I love it. It's small, easy to use, has a good zoom, takes panoramic pictures, blah, blah, blah. The flash is quick, and the battery lasts pretty long. It also has a timer, but you can also get an IR remote do-dad if you want to take several pictures without the timer. Pretty cool option. Don't lose it like I have!

Tight Lines in a week!
