Question for those of you who fish Vermilion....

Does trolling make up a good part of your success? I'm headed there for a week long trip in mid-late July (pretty pumped up about too..) I'm booked for a full day with Dave Swenson on the first full day there and my party will be there over the full moon period that follows shortly thereafter.

Anyhow...I'm wondering if trolling up piggies when casting gets tough is a proven deal over there...

Any thoughts would be appreciated regarding time of day, effective baits, etc...would be greatly apprecieated...

Thanks in advance...

It defintley works there in the fall. I know of at least a dozen fish over 50" caught in a relatively small area this last fall over a couple weeks there including a 54.5"x28" & a 55"x27".

July is when you must CAST!! CAST!! CAST!!

I have only trolled during the late fall untill ice up, but I suppose you could troll around rock reefs and shallow weed edges .

What you need to do is get out on the water before sun up and fish a few hrs after sunset..... In other words, fish prime holding areas
at prime time hrs. Good luck,

I"ve fished it the last 2 years at the end of July, spent a fair amount of time trolling. Never caught a muskie, but if your looking for some pike action, trolling is the ticket. Trolled around islands, open water etc, never had a muskie. I'd spend more time casting, then cast some more.

We trolled up a legal muskie in a tourny there last year the 3rd week of July, mid day too. I know it works, just move into areas not overrun by every caster on the lake. There are big muskies to be had a cast or two off the reefs and islands if you do your homework. Don't forget your planer boards in tight against the shore either, the baby ducks are still with their mommies.
