Greetings,
Here's an update on the 54" proposal for Green Bay.
We are currently working on getting prepared for the 2007 spring hearings in April. There is an early indication of strong support at the DNR level already as this would follow suit with the 54" limit that is in place with our neighbors around the Great Lakes.
What we can do today is call upon our friends in the field, and on the water, to stand together at the spring hearings. Unified support from as many conservationists as we can possibly get will be the major key to winning this resolution and preserving what can possibly become a true world record musky destination.
Greg Wells, past Muskies Inc. President & current Between the Lakes Chapter Presidnet, has been insturmental in making some of the state level contact and gaining information. Greg will also be contacting each Wisconsin Chapter of Muskies Inc. in call for thier support. We also need the major local clubs such as Dave's Musky Club, C & R Musky Club, and the Winnebago Musky Club along with any other multi-species clubs. Anyone interested in supporting this can contact Greg or I.
Thanks in advance for your support!!!

I think this proposal would really be beneficial to the Green Bay fishery. We have seen in the past few spring and fall seasons that there are some BIG fish out there. By protecting them them up to this size limit I really think that a World Record could come from this area someday. |

Location: Watertown, MN | Go get get it done Greg and Dennis, hope she gets approved, to help save what looks like a true world class fishery on the rise on the Green Bay. I am sure you will called names like elitist and some other names, which I wouldn't repeat on the web. All for the fishery first.

| This would be the initial resolution proposal. We will have an update on what needs to be done by the end of the day today. We have a ton of support, starting with help at the DNR level. We are getting the wording figured out now so the resolution covers the entire system, and it then it looks like we will need "authors" for each county to sign the resolution for that county and appear at the spring hearing to submit it. I'm pretty sure the hearings are going to be held on Monday April 17th at 7PM in each county.
Thanks for the support from everyone already.....we'll keep posting as this develops.

Location: Rhinelander. | This is a body of water I can probaly see this on as its not our typical small inland lake. I have followed the stories on fish being caught there and it truely is a great body of water that could produce the record talked about.

| I'm all for it. But if we would stop glorifying all the OOS fish caught, it would probably make just as big an impact. |

Location: north central wisconsin | Dennis and Co., just be sure to include in the resolution, that you want all associated waters that now have the 50" limit, included with the increase to 54". When the original 50" resolution was written and passed, only select areas of Green Bay were affected, and we had to subsequently push for support and vote again a couple years later to include the rest of the bay and its tribs. Great work guys!!! If there is anything further I can do to help, let me know! |

| Hi Everyone,
With help of the DNR and great feedback from folks here we have the wording of the resolution established in a manner that will cover the entire system that already has the 50" limit. What we need most are volunteers who will be willing to make a committment to be the "author" for the resolution, and submitt it at thier perspective county of residence. The resolution needs to be submitted in person by the "author" at each county. We will have a copy of the resolution, you would become the "author" and submit it. Secondly, we need as many people as possible to attend the county hearing in support of this resolution and to vote.
If you would like to learn more about how this process works you will find a good description here at this link
http://dnr.wi.gov/org/nrboard/congress/writtensolution/
If you would like to see a list of where your county hearing will be held go here and scroll down to April 16 where you will find a link to meeting locations.

The Spring Hearings will be held on Monday, April 16th, 2007 at 7:00 PM.
If you are willing to be an "author" please feel free to contact me as I will be compiling a list of "authors" for each county.
Thanks in advance for all your support!

Location: searchin for 50 | Are authors needed from every county in the state or just around the green bay area? |
|
|
|
| It's kind of a "two-fold" need. We need as much support as possible, especially state wide. We would like to get as many authors from as many counties as possible to submit this resolution, and then as many people as possible to be at each one to vote.
Thanks to all who have committed to helping so far....you guys rock!!!!

Location: Rhinelander, WI | Hey guys great idea!
I want to drive one point home for all you guys. It’s VERY, VERY, VERY important for the counties directly affected to get positive support for this resolution. When we were working on the Pelican Lake proposal I was told a number of time by DNR officals and Conservation Congress members that even if the question passed state wide if it didn’t pass in the local county it would probably be DEAD! The reverse is also true, it could fail statewide, but if it passes locally it has a very good chance of moving forward. So every vote state wide is important, but the local votes are much more important. All you club members need to impress upon everyone in the club how important it is to take a night and sit through those boring meetings.
In my opinion, it’s just like politics, if you don’t vote you don’t have a right to complain about the government. If you don’t take the time to show up on vote on these musky issues, you don’t have a right to complain about the state of musky fishing in Wisconsin.
Also after the vote, it’s important to keep in contact with the Congress, find out what committee the issue will be referred to and be a squeaky wheel. Find someone on the committee to be a champion for the effort; it can die easily in committee if it’s not pushed forward, even if it passes at the resolution level. There are on number of very pro musky fishermen who represent the congress for Oneida County, if there isn’t a Green Bay local representative willing to champion this issue if it makes it to the Congress I can contact one of them or more and see if they will try and help it through committee.
Good luck guys and if you need someone to bring the resolution to the Oneida County Meeting I will do it. Just let me know.
