I am finishing baits and have used both etex and Devcon, I typically use the devcon as I am ony finishing one lure at a time and it is less wasteful, mixing is easier etc.. Anyway I am having trouble with the finishi getting some cloud color in it once it sets and then dries. anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

Mark I have had that happen a couple of times also. They are tiny mirco bubbles. I got it a couple of times rushing the finish. I think my paint wasn't totally dry. The other time it happens is when I have put too much heat on it when floating out bubbles. A fizz effect. I am using enamels. I notice it on my black areas. I think the thinning of the paint causes it also. You have to thin to get effects. Just try to let dry longer if you think that is the problem.

I warm the body of the bait a bit and the epoxy a tad. Nothing crazy. I also hand brush one bait at a time in little batches of epoxy. I mix only enough for one bait only. I don't know how the production guys do a bunch at a time. I haven't got there yet.

Good luck

Is it small bubbles or cloudy? Try hitting it with a very light amount of flame from a torch. That does it for me to get all the bubbles out. I have seen this cloud in my epoxy but only the stuff that comes from the syringe products. Try it on a small test painted piece of wood.

Hope this does it.

thanks guys, my first instict is that I am rushing it, I have a light over the area to warm it and help it cure. Otherwise it takes forever, guess thats half the fun of this game is learning from mistakes and striving for perfection

Tigger and I were discussing this the other night on the phone and laughing at our mutual frustrations with curing epoxy perfectly.
It can drive you crazy making sure that not only are there no bubbles or cloudiness but also that there are no build ups or runs on one part of the baits.

I'm clear coating this morning and my newly improved drying wheel was running great...then it stopped! AAAAAAAAAARGH!!!
Fortunately, I quickly diagnosed the problem which was a burned out 12 volt adaptor for the motor. Quickly hooked the motor up to one of my boat batteries and voila, back in business!

Are you guys using Devcon right now for your clear? I need to buy a 4 gallons for 375 Grunts I have coming in and want to save on the bulk buying rates. Any pointers on good bulk epoxy brands would be appreciated. OR if you use Devcon the part number woudl be appreciated.
Thanks,
James

has anyone else noticed the color of devcon has changed recently? the part that was yellow before is now almost clear.
