I just saw Mania's show for the first time and I noticed he had these rod wraps. Does any one know the brand and has anyone used them and what do you think about them?

Sir; I use the rod wraps. I love the feel, easy on the hand, and very possitive for grip. I personally do not wrap the whole butt end. But double up on the reel seat and palm area, which you hold most of the time. You get them at Bass Pro. I think I saw them at cabela's also. Not a good Idea for useĀ in rod holders though.

do a search of this site (look for it in the upper right corner of the page) for "wrap" and you'll find this thread. all the info you'll likely need right there...

I buy the tennis raquette wraps at Walmart also. Much cheaper and better quality.

Something else to consider is hockey tape, it stays on, is waterproof and gives the best grip I've found. It can be found at most sporting goods stores and only cost a few dollars.

I used rod wraps that I believe I ordered from Bass Pro or Cabela's. They were great for an improved grip and they came in Green, Red, Yellow, and Black. This made for a more quick identification of which rig I wanted or needed (especially at throw-back times).

But ... I stopped using the wraps after fishing for a couple of days straight in the rain. I found that while the wraps were leather, the butts of my rods were soaked and they did not dry easily and I was worried about eventual dry rot or direct rotting of the cork butts.

So, while there was a definite utility factor to using the wraps ... I was apprehensive about the prospect of replacing the cork butts on 10 high-quality rods.

Second on the Wal Mart tennis racket wrap. Same as BPS but wrap 3 rods for $1.00.
