| I heard that Trophy Technology is coming out with a rod for the pounders that retails for $180.00
Has anyone seen or held one of these rods yet?
Anyone have any specs? length? lure weight? fiberglass? graphite? etc.
I see on the shack attack site that St. Croix has a XXXH premiere series rod that is rated for 8 to 20 ounce lures...anyone know the length on that rod? is it 7'9"?

Location: Bloomington, IL | I saw the Bull Dawg Rods at the Chicago show, but I don't know that much about them. I believe they are all graphite, but I'll let someone esle more in the know answer that one.

Location: Iowa | Did you check out the specs on some of those rods...lure weights up to 40 oz...that is rediculous...which would be the better buy...and bulldawg series rod or the new St. Croix Extra Heavy rod...

| There is a reason for that. How are you going to high quality graphite rod with a soft tip to throw over a pound of bait? Think it was Loomis that said "I can build a rod that will not break but you will not want to fish with it." If I was to throw that kind of bait, which I do not, I would use a glass stick.
Think about have a pool cue stick with super braid line (no strech) and fighting a fish....fish clearly has the upper hand when it can produce slack in your line. Pool cue stick do not absorb the fight.
I did not look at the Bulldawg rod in Chicago so I cannot comment on that stick.

| FYI, here is some info on the bulldawg rods.
First, they are built to handle lure weights from a couple ounces all the way to the new Monster Mag bulldawgs that weigh almost 2 pounds (32 ounces). If you don't like a heavy rod, then buy a spring/bucktail or reg/swimbait rod. These are great rods with much less stiff actions.
The vast majority of the rods we are building are designed to throw Magnums (12 ounces), regs (6 ounces), and springs (3 ounces). We did build a few Supermag rods for throwing the pounders. Yes, you need a heavy rod to snap cast 16 ounce lures, and there are plenty of guys throwing pounders 40 yards on Mille Lacs.
Finally, we built a small number of Monster Mag rods for those crazy enough to cast 2 pound lures. We have many pre-orders for these rods, so believe it or not, there are some people out there who want a rod that can handle a huge lure. These rods are rated to 40 ounces. Didn't I see a few of the guys whining about these rods cheering the XXX by St. Croix? Oh, well, there is rarely rationality of message boards.
Currently, Rollie and Helens has all the SKU's except the Monster Mag rods which don't get done until March. Reeds also has some rods, but again, not the Monster Mags. Rollie will be carrying the monster mag rods in limited quantity.
When the big box guys get their spring sets done, you will be able to buy these rods at Gander Mountain, Scheels, Sportsmans Warehouse, and many other locations.
