Shep, we figured at the show the best method of casting would be to get over some deep water, drop the bait in....drive away until you are completely unspooled then start retrieving! |

First off go to heaver duty split rings because when that thing gets bit its going to be from a mighty big creature.
Second, if your going to attempt to throw that thing you better be as big as Yow Ming or have good Med. Insurance for when you rip your arms off.
Oh by the way I'll be buying a few for trolling in Mn.
Good Luck, Jerome |

LOL! Yeah...that's a perfect way to describe the way to "cast 'n retrieve" a bait like that.
Was that bait meant to be a show display? Or an actual lure that they're going to market and sell in quantities? |

I understand you are a youngin and all, I am 27 and I think that even that if I found the right rod to handle that bait it would be a challenge to cast for more than an hour or 2. Rotator cuff replacements and chiropractor visits are not cheap. Even after all that, I STILL WANT ONE!!!!! I hope it comes with its own HMO health care plan. Let me know how the XXXH St. Croix works. |

I was there with SJ for a "real life" demonstration on the Pond last summer of the reason to replace the rings on the Dawgs, watched a 50+ inch fish swim away with a treble on my girlfriends son's line......and an open split ring in hand in the boat. Talk about a buzz kill..... Look at the pics on post #1, the rings look tiny!

Buy new dawg
Remove hooks and rings
Bucher or Wolverine Splits
7/0 Hooks
HANG ON!!!!!!!!

Diamondback is not made for pounders or two pounders.
As a rod builder, the thought of using either of those lures with a Diamondback makes me start to feel ill.
You are a sure winner Nelson if he does. |

I would use the glass stick...then you would still have a soft tip.

Glass catfish rod? Maybe. Might need to get into glass rods for saltwater applications for casting that thing...

Double split ring them. A size 5 will fit into a size 7, but I would try to find a size 9 and put that into a size 7. I'm just not sure if that size is available? If you don't understand, let me know and I'll post a picture to illustrate. |

I think I'll have no problem throwing this bait equipment wise.....personal health wise, that might be a problem! What's another herniated disc if I catch a 50? HAHA! |

Location: Yahara River Chain | Here's a #5 inside a #7 split ring - called double ringing. Just remember to be two sizes apart. Also you have to have room for the two rings. Just not quite enough on this reg BullDawg.

| Anybody looking for a rod to cast the 2 Pounder, Pounder, or even the Mag Dawg needs to check out the video we shot in Milwaukee this weekend.
I gaurantee you will NEVER put this much pressure on a rod while fishing.
The rods Keith is building on the XXXH blank are simply awesome. Extremely powerful, yet still enough action in the tip to not give fish any leverage. I cant wait to get mine.

There are rods coming that will suit the bait just fine. I spoke with my tournament partner Mark Gillich on the phone today and he intends on throwing them alot...we'll see. |
