There are a couple price point on the Okuma Line Counters.

The Magda's retail for about $40. The size that most guys use from trolling Muskies is the 20 size.

If you step up to the Convector... the retail price is about $75 on these.

The high end is the Catalina that retail for about $129

The differences that separate the Convector and the Magda follows....

The Convector has an aluminum spool, Infinite anti-reverse, speed loc gearing and Carbonite drag washers. The CV's also have an oversized drop down gear box with larger gears and drags. There are a number of big name guides that have been using the Magda's for years without issues but have moved up to the CV's with all of the upgrades.

The Catalina is basically the same reel as the Convector with the exception of the machined aluminum frame and upgraded star with a click function.

My opinion is that if you are looking for an inexpensive reel and don't want to spend a lot of money, go with the Magda. The CV though... with the upgrades that Okuma has done has been impressive. For $75... you get a lot of reel for the money.

Depending upon the rods position on the boat, I will use either 10' Daiwa H Dipsy rods with Daiwa Sealine reels or Ugly Stick big water rods with Shimano Tekotas. The sealines are reasonably priced reels, well proven, a favorite of Great Lakes charter captains.
