| i just talked with luke ronnestrand from musky buster and he said they have some new baits out for the chicago show. they have a new magnum topwalker, a mid-size wavewalker, another creeper stlye bait called the water-slider, a re-designed super humper and mid-sized lowriders and tzunamis. He said that they will have new colors for the baits too, said that these are his best assortment of baits he has ever done for any show...seemed excited about it. Brad hoppe of musky mayhem also has a new spinner bait-it is made from the same flasabou that his cowgirls are and it has a #10 colorado blade. It is a cowgirl in a spinnerbait mold...pretty cool. just an FYI for everyone who is going. |

Location: Tinley Park. Fish Cen IL. Bass & Vilas Cty.Muskie | I have learned Never to buy New baits at the show. I will wait till they are proven fish catchers. The hours and $$ I have wasted on New Show baits Pi**s me off. The hours especially. I am not picking on anyone's baits- It just seems that this is a Big advertising Gimmick for the Show to sell and promote untested (fishermens attention getting)baits. I will stick with custom colors and handmade baits.Just my opinion. |

you make a good point. yea there can be alot of unproven garbage, but i hope most new items have been tested and proven over the past season. I think most muskie fisherman know what might work and what a quality product is.like Brad's new spinnerbait, it's a spinner bait spinnerbaits are proven it just has some new body material used worth a try you bet. and Lukes topwaters in some new sizes. a mid sized low rider would be perfect for some waters i fish. if I see a new tool and think of a way to use it, I'm going to give it a try. thats what i'v always done. Some stuff ends up in the frankinstine lab but so called "Proven" items end up there as well.
We have a new spinnerbait. to be honest i havent "fished" with it, we have tested it & it runs great . nothing caught on it and it dosent have a name yet. but it fits a application that i havent seen befor and neither have the fish. Sat at the chi show Chad will demo it in the pool and the crowd will get to pick a name for it. We we will have some for sale. unproven yep but every one who has seen it says the same thing "that thing will get crushed". Sometimes by the time something gets proven im off trying the next thing. but thats just me i realy have just as much fun trying new things as i do catching, but when you try something new and catch that's the best!!
see ya at the show

Location: Musky Tackle Online, MN | I will sometimes avoid new baits if it's a design or a style that hasn't been seen before. I've seen in the past that there's often some kinks that need to be worked out. There was a certain bait from last year that fit this description. But if it's simply a variation or a size difference, sometimes it pays to be the first to show fish these baits. I can remember such a case about 10 years ago. The first year a particular bait came out, I was crushing them on this bait early on. Then everyone started throwing them and its effectiveness wore off. Now it's to the point where this bait doesn't even hit the water with me anymore.
Baits like mentioned here are sure to be great producers out of the gate, and I believe consistent producers in the long run as well. However, Keith failed to mention the new DC-10 and Reefer that Llungen Lures have come out with for 2007. These are a couple of winners and will no doubt be putting big fish in the boat in '07!
Looking forward to the upcoming shows!

| These particular baits are made by guides who get a ridiculous amount of time on the water, I am sure that Luke’s baits as well as Chad’s/Brad's are tested by them and other guides before they decide to sell them. The only true new bait is the water slider, the rest like top walker, tsunami, low-rider, wave walker, superhumper.... are tried and true baits that are of a different size for more specific uses like awh mentioned. But if you’re unsure about it, stop by the musky buster/ musky mayhem booths and talk to the makers’ one on one...that is why the shows are so successful! Where else can you actually talk to the makers?

Well.....My 16.75" straight and 17" jointed Grunts may be there. New bait in 2006 and I hope some would try it I know some here have already and have commented positively. At least take a look and let me know your honest opinon! I think the Rollie&Helens booth will have a few out. Not guaranteed but, I think Jim was going to take a few to some of the shows.
Thanks,
James

Location: Tinley Park. Fish Cen IL. Bass & Vilas Cty.Muskie | I am not picking on any One's baits. I am a BIG Fan/Buyer of small company baits. The quality and time put into each bait is felt when I pick one up and can ask the maker/rep a question or two about his creation. I was replying to your title Bigbrit not the baits you were talking about. I actually Thank You for making us aware of Chad/Brad's baits. I will definitely stop by the booth to look at them. There must be 20+ quality baits I bought in 2006 that I never threw, so I have to spend alot more time on the water to learn their performance and limitations and to see if the fish see the same thing that I saw in the bait when I bought it.If you are going to buy baits there is not a better place than the show to see/buy quality baits from fishermen who fish muskie every week > just think twice maybe 3 times before you purchase the New muskie must have.
