Found this interesting link. It talks about how fisherman should consider color selection for their lures. It conveniently supports my firm belief on this topic.... but in someone elses words. Check it out!

I am always one for color, I know some people are not. one thing, I just don't have luck with the loud gawdy stuff even in water with less then 1ft visibility. Part of that is I think, that my water is so pounded they may be conditioned to those types of baits. I have good luck with white and silver even in the murkiest of water.

Mr. Cady... that is a good question. Black absorbs all light, but purple still reflects some blue and red. Therefore, they have to be different. Throw in that some people believe that muskies do not have cones capable of perceiving BLUE light and you could go so far as to say the purple may actually appear RED to some muskies.

My guess is that purple appears more like a light gray. What color it actually looks like is probably irrelevant. The fact that it reflects some light still means it can stimulate the RODS that are sensitive to light intensity... and is critical for peripheral vision.

Despite the analogy, black and purple are both productive "colors". Some of my favorite bucktails are purple.... and many of my top producing crankbaits are blue/violet/ or purple.

Oh yeah, toss in the "color filtering" effects of water and the different "filtering" based on water clarity and this gets even more complicated.

Good question, tough to answer.
