I had my boat put away in "prestorage" before emptying it and cleaning it out. It was in a storage building of the business I work for. Last night that building was broken into and the (I can't use the term I am thinking of right now) culprit/s emptied my boat for me. Everything I use on the water for muskies is gone.

I lost a slew of St. Croix Rods (personalized with my name on them by the way), a bushel basket full of reels almost all Abu's and almost all left handed, A Big Kahuna net, and soooo many baits I just want to cry. A full Lakewood, and a half dozen or more planos full of baits. Some of these baits were very personal to me, a couple of them being customs from Roger Waters, one of which I received for standing up in a wedding. The thing that sucks the most is a very personal item that was on the strap of my tackle box, a guardian angel tie tack I wore at my dad's funeral (that way I knew he was getting some time in the boat with me).

I am incredibly frustrated right now, but please lend a helping hand and keep an eye out for these items, especially any St. Croix's that say handcrafted for Norm Wild Jr.

Thanks!

Geeze. I know nothing can replace sentimental items, but can you hold the storage facility accountable?

Being robbed is a terrible feeling, hopefully the authorities bust those !@#$%^&.

The culprits broke into a storage facility, odds are they weren't looking for fishing stuff, but took the opportunity. These guys will be trying to make money off this stuff, no doubt about it, Norm's stuff will be sold off. I'd keep an eye on local tackle shops. They may be dumb enough to try to return the rods and reels.

Norm, I am so sorry for your many losses.

This won't help right now, but later, reflect back: these are just things. They can all be replaced.
The memories that you have associated with these items, you'll make more, maybe better ones in some cases.

Remember the joys you brought to folks (like me!) on your boat. Those are really the irreplaceable things that last.

And if they ever find the sumbitches that ripped you, better hope the cops lock them up away from the rest of us, they do not want a visit from a couple hillbillies bent on revenge for their buddy! How'd you like to be the crook that opens the door to a new visitor whose first statement is, "ya know, I ain't afraid of goin back to prison!" m

Sorry to hear about the loss, who would want to steal that many potato's. Hopefully Antigo finest will get to bottom of this, I know the guardian angle tie tack is irreplaceable.

Wow what a bad deal, Norm. Anything I have is yours anytime, man. Those creeps probably left prints all over the cap of that boat, maybe the police can dust for prints. Probably 'kids' you are looking for, unfortunately.

Maybe your Dad can put in a word with the Big Guy and have a message sent off to them. Lightning might be good...

Norm, I've been a police officer for many years working on numerous burglary and armed robbery cases. Make sure you keep in contact with the detectives that took your report. If burglaries continue in the area, you can be sure the offenders are "locals" because a "MO" pattern will develop. Was there a forced entry to the building or not? If not, you may have to take an "inside look". Kdawg

Norm that really sucks! Many years ago I had my house broken into. The police took a report and that was as far as it went. We had many friends who had kids in the local high school and ask them to keep an hear to the ground. Sure enough the kids started braging and got caught. If you know any local kids in the high school, I would offer them a reward to help you. Sorry again!

What a shame. I planned on selling a few lots of lures in the spring. I'll send you the pics and you are welcomed to any/all of the lures. If you don't like - take anyway to trade for something else. I'll check with a few educators I know in the Antigo and Rhinelander School District and have them listen for stories. Best of luck man...a few beers in Chicago are on me. I'd say beer is on me, but after drinking with you at PI, it would be cheaper for me to replace your stolen gear. Laughing is healthy

Sorry to hear about your loss. Best chance for recovery will be when the jerks start bragging and showing off your stuff, maybe trying to unload it. Was anything else broken into that night? Did anything else come up missing in the storage shed? Check with your local PD and see if they have a school liason officer that can maybe put out some feelers at the school. Also, see if there is a Crimestoppers in your county that can put it on the local radio. Crimestoppers pays cash rewards that would not come out of your pocket. Sorry to sound like a commercial here, just a fellow musky addict and police officer who would like to see you get your stuff back. Good Luck Ken

A good friend of mine had his boat broken into in the Three Lakes area about 1 1/2 years ago. He filed a very specific and detailed report. Many of his hand made custom lures were stolen. Lucky thing is that he contacted everyone he knew in the musky world and sure enough they caught the guy about 9 months later. The guy was selling his baits out of some flea markets in the St. Germain area. So my buddy goes up there and walks up this guys display table the following week and sure enough there is some of his stuff. He even bought back one of his lures! My buddy couldn't say anything to the guy because he knew the fuzz were going to execute a search warrant later that week. They did and found 90% of his stuff. The guy had something like 35-50,000 worth of stolen merchandise in his garage. The whole court case is still pending I believe so I shouldn't say too much more. Needless to say you very well could see some of your stuff again someday. I hope you do.

I couldn't believe my friend could stand at this guys flea market table and not say a word.......it had to be amazingly hard!

nwild,

Sorry for the bad luck!

*****MY SUGGESTION*****

WATCH EBAY LIKE A HAWK!!!!!!!! (I know others here have already said this....but here is my further suggestion on how)

Let us know what some of the model numbers for your reels and rods are and some of the rare lures and the common groups of lures you had. Set up an auto watch on eBay for those keywords and you will get updates from eBay. I can only guess that if these guys don't fish and if they don't know anyone who does they will only have a few places to dump your stuff for cash. eBay is the best place I know of for that. Again, please post as I am a big eBay fan and look for stuff all the time as I think others here do too. If you are not an eBayer email me and I can give you some tips on how to set yourself up in 5 minutes and will do some of the background work on your keyword database you should use.

I hope this helps and I hope I can too. I will mark this post and post anything I can find for you. I love cathcing the bad guy!

James

There's just no words to describe that feeling...

I walked out of school once my senior year of college to find that my car had been stolen. "just a car" people said.

I built that car. Took me 5 years and nearly all the money I had.

Sucks losing anything special to you. Sucks more when someone took it on purpose. Here's hoping whoever it is gets caught and you get your stuff back -- ALL your stuff.

If not, I know a bunch of guys who will probably step up and help you get new stuff.

Bet you know 'em too

"The culprits broke into a storage facility, odds are they weren't looking for fishing stuff, but took the opportunity."

i dont know what type of business you work at Norm or how many employees there are, but i would at least consider the possibility it was an inside job and that a fellow employee who knew the boat was in there and just what was in it either did it or told someone else about it who then broke in.

was that the only building broken into? anything else valuable stored there and if so any of that taken as well? any history of thefts or break ins at your work?

Well...I'd say that tie-tack alone should bring those fools enough bad karma to really catch up with them and put them into a sling!

This really sucks to hear and is always my worst nightmare to think of my stuff being stolen. I've had a LOT of stuff stolen from me in the past years, fishing equipment, downhill skis, car parts, baseball cards, etc, etc. No matter how much you try and do the smart and right thing to do your best to protect it, unless you're sleeping on it at night or standing on it during the day...thieves will find a time and a way to get to what they want. I've always been really smart about my stuff and have protected it the best I could...but it still ends up missing.

Hopefully you're able to retrieve some, if not all, of your stuff back.

As for watching ebay....that would really suck to see some of your stuff on there and end up in a bidding war with someone to try and recapture what was once yours to begin with.

Best of luck. May bad karma catch up with those thieves!

Man, I hate thieves.Hit as many fishing Boards as possible with the information. They have to unload it somewhere, and any kind of Musky equipment being sold should draw the eye of one of us,if enuff know about it.
MANY of these break ins are inside jobs like someone mentioned, or at least by someone who had been in that facility, and knew what was there.

Norm, Sorry to hear about the break in. That sucks. Do you guys hire seasonal workers that may have known what you had? Any indications that they knew what they were looking for, or did they take anything else out of the building? Anybody know you were putting it away you may suspect? IF ANYBODY READING THIS KNOWS ANYTHING, AT LEAST GET NORM THE TIE TACK BACK!!! The rest can be replaced, unfortunately for a price.

The ironic thing after talking to Norm this afternoon, is that they believe the "scumbags" broke into the shed looking for copper wire, and like most stated the boat was a bonus. Then watching the news tonite in the twin cities, one of the top stories is about people breaking into unoccuppied houses and stealing copper wire and tubing. Actually had a house explode tonite because of people stealing copper.

Wow, I am overwhelmed by the responses. Thanks a lot guys, you have already helped more than you will ever know. I appreciate all the posts, emails and phone calls I received. Yesterday I felt like everyone out there was some kind of crooked bastage, but once again M1sters come through and prove that most people are truely good, there are only a few scum balls out there.

Just a quick update, my area has seen a rash of burglaries recently. High scrap prices for copper wire and such seem to be driving the spree. More than likely that is what they were looking for in my case, and when they saw my boat in there they figured they hit the jackpot. The police were able to lift a couple of prints off of some of my storage latches, and my butt seat is now residing at the state crime lab, hopefully these guy's prints are in the system.

I appreciate the offers of gear, but after several talks with insurance adjusters yesterday, it appears that I will be covered monetarily. It still sucks rocks though, a lot of the stuff just can't be replaced (and do you know how long it will take to tune 20 new suicks!!!).

To all those that offered baits and reels and such, those would be much better off in some kids hand, I should be just fine by spring.

Thank you all for bringing back a bit of cheer to the Holidays....Merry Christmas!

I had all my hunting and fishing stuff stolen about 9 years ago. It hurt...but none of it was personal stuff like your pin...I feel for ya Norm!!

The silver lining....the shopping spree I went on after I got the insurance check was close to orgasmic.....if that helps any

Anything I can do, just ask.

Why don't you come down here for the Southern Opener?

I will put you up at our cottage and you can even park your rig in the driveway or in the water. Cottage is on Pewaukee Lake, 2 miles fro Smokey's Muskie Shop and 3 from my house.

You might need to test out those lures before the Northern Opener!!!!

Been away from the board for a few days. So sorry to hear of this Norm. Anything I can do to help let me know.

I hope they catch whoever did this. Unfortuantely our justice system is far watered down from where it needs to be, but none the less.

I fully understand about the pin on your Lakewoods. I was very close to my Grandfather and a few months before he passed away (I was 17 at the time when he died) he gave me a similar keepsake. I had it hanging from a chain on the rear view mirror in my car. About a year later I was back in Milw. and parked at a gas station for about an hour+ where a buddy was working in Wauwatosa off of 69th and North Ave. and came out and it was gone. In the back seat were two guitars worth at that time about $2,500, I could have cared less if they stole those but they got the St. Christopher from my Grandpa... Bast***s

Glad to read in your last post that you will be covered financially.

Will keep hope they get the scumbags.

That really SUCKS!!!!!!!!! My heart goes out to you. I and Muskie E will keep an eye out.
My good buddy had a similar thing happen to him on the 3 Lakes Chain.
It took almost a year and his stuff started to show up at the flea markets.
Yes, the guy was arrested and my buddy will almost get all of his stuff back

Norm,

Just saw this. I feel your pain, man. Biggest problem is that sentimental value is zero to the insurance adjustors, and that tie tac can never be replaced. I like the Extreme Suggestion. Get down here for the opener, and we'll tune up some Suicks!

I think every one here would love nothing more than to have these clowns caught. Here's my twist........

Bring 'em to the Chicago Muskie show and put them in a dunk tank................outdoors! January in Chicago!!! I'd sure pay a few bucks to soak 'em!

Oh Norm tell me it isn't so!!! I have just took a peek at the boards and saw this!!!!! I know how you exactly feel. As you know, been there, but I definitely can't say to the degree that it is for you. My heart goes out to you, and let me know if there's any way I could help you out. I'll keep an eye out for you and I'd be willing to give you an orange and chartreuse undertaker to cheer you up. Granted it's not as good as the one that you had, but it's a start to rebuild the arsenal. Keep your head up and hopefully the police will be able to find the SOB's.

catch ya later,
Krappie

Hey, Norm….MAN THAT REALLY SUCKS!!!!! I don’t know what else to say. I hope Mark, John and the rest of the boys are on the case. We may need to bring “Dirt Patrol” out of moth balls to take care of this situation. I know when I am on the road this next summer there will not be a flea market I don’t stop at to see if any of the gear turns up.

You know how much I believe in Karma….well these punks sure have a load of the bad side heading there way. Keep your chin up and remember that. Have a great holiday season.

Remember there’s a 50” size limit on Pelican Lake starting in 2007!!!!!!!

Wow, that blows! I hope they find the dudes, and you can at least get back the items that are irreplaceable. I jump around a lot on the boards and such so I'll keep an eye out. Like mentioned already, any particular rare lures that may be an easy tip off that it's your stuff?
