| Anyone on here have any expericance with the chain. I have a cabin on it and been musky fishing it as long as I can remember. So for at least the only 20 some years of my life......It used to be decent but by the years things seem to be getting worse. I know its trophy waters, but come on......something has to be up. Im a newbie to the sport kind of, Im only 20 yrs old but....I have a place on the chain but next year dont plan on putting my boat in there half as much as I used too... |

| one suggestion would be to hire Doug Smith a couple times out of Rollie and Helens...he knows the chain as well as anyone and if you hired him a few times I am quite sure you would learn alot about the body of water and probably have a shot at a few big ones w/ him...
it is low density, trophy water but there are definitely enough fish in there to keep fishing it.... |

Location: Racine, Wi | If you're up there next year when I am, we'll have to hook up. My inlaws have a resort on the chain (Little Crawling Stone) so I'm up there usually about once a month. (this year, not so much with the little one around). I'm by no means an expert out there, but I've gotten my share of fish, and seen some monsters. They're out there, you just have to change up if you're not seeing fish. Sometimes out there though, you don't see fish. The days you do means somethings going on.
I'm still learning it myself, so maybe I should give Doug or Howie a call to get a jump on the learning curve. But it's a fun system to learn. Challenging for sure. Shoot me a line and we can talk a bit. |

Location: Kildeer, IL | I'll second hiring Doug Smith. I've hired him multiple times to fish out there. It's a big body of water and he knows it well.
He guided my buddy to this nice tiger.

| very nice fish....
Dont be wrong the chain is good smallmouth fishing and USED to be crazy pike fishing, but the past years have been real bad. We used to at least see fish everyday.....last couple years we have spent less and less time out there...and now that I got my own boat and dont need to go out with my dad I plan on spending less time out there...would be a learning experiance to get a guide but I have been fishing it since I was lil so I know spots.....maybe if hes not to much $$$ I will get him for a day up there next year....
I was just wondering if anyone on this board is on the chain or someone that fishes it alot... |

| SVT, it's almost xmas..ask your mom and dad for a guide date or 2 with Doug for next year...trust me, if you have a place on that body of water I would be spending alot of time out there...unless you are looking for smaller fish and action water that is.
Doug puts lots of fish in the boat out there...my guess is he might be fishing a bit deeper than you are..again, just a guess...If I had a place on that chain I would hit it 75 % of the time for sure...there are 50 lbers in there.

| Im a young kid and need fish in the boat to keep me going sometimes. Now that I got my own boat for 2007 I plan on putting my knowldge to the test by myself next summer out there, no more fishing where 'dad' thinks theres fish..haha...Id have to contact him somehow and talk to him about when wouldbe the best time to get him out there.....I dont mind trophy huntin, but I gotta find some more lakes up there where I can go out and see #s and catch a few even. Im still young (20) and learning alot just kind od getting fed up with that chain.... |

| I agree SVT, it is tough water...I have put in probably 100 hours on the chain in the last 8 years..didn't hit it the last couple but did in the late 90s, and early 00's...we boated one, raised quite a few but there were fishless days...I was in the Lake of the Torches tourney once...um yah, some 40+ boats, one fish caught by guess who, Mr Saric...
But, one fish we did raise on Fence had my partners hands shaking for 15 minutes...can you say big.
Doug will steer you in the right direction on when to get him...

| Well we all know why...Jim Saric grew up on that chain. His dad and family have a cabin right down the road from mine....I have caught his boat out there a few times.....I just e-mail Doug about a few things, we'll see what he has to say, I plan on getting him next year sometime... |

Location: Racine, Wi | SVT, shoot me a line at [email protected]. I can show you a few areas up there that are more numbers based if you need action from fish. I'm usually fishing solo up there when I go since my brother in law is alwasy out of town when I'm up there. Otherwise I'm fishing the middle of the day with the wife so she can get a tan and catch smallies. |
