Come onnnn guys!!!! I'm in the Library trying to do a Take-Home Final due Monday and I'm not getting anything done because no matter how hard I try to focus all I can think of is...
"Kentucky, Oklahoma, musky, musky, Song...Song of the South"
I'm going to fail if this keeps up...although it would definitely be worth it for the ticket/prizes.

| The underground railroad is alive and well in muskie country. Me & Mauser traveled to Indy Monday night and were roomed by Tomcat and his family in what he termed the underground muskie railroad - shuttling fish-starved southerners to fertile northern waters. Great to see them again. Our trip to Eagle River yesterday was long and uneventful, we got to visit Rollie & Helens and felt we'd gone to heaven.
Met up with cincinnati from the M 101 board last night for dinner and he directed us to Snipe lake for the evening bite. I guess they call it Snipe to fool the tourists new in town? Didfn't see fish but Mauser worked off some nervous energy. We're heading out with Tony Grant in a few minutes and heaidng to the great white north. Weather yesterday was rolling rainstorms and this day should clear out later, clouds and breeze. We're having a blast. m |

Location: The desert | Ranger! I spoke with Mauser last night. If you are gonna room at the Triangle, we'd be pround to join you! Prolly be closer to where we'd fish, anyway.
I'm thinking that you and I can convoy to a lake, and we can both fish it with our boats; if you need a tow around the water to get to a spot my 9.9 will help get us there. He and I are supposed to fish with Norm on Saturday, so I could even loan you my rig for the day, if needed.
Also, for those coming to the outing looking for lodging, I got a brochure from Clear Lake Inn and Resort. They offer cabins and a motel on a private 40 acre lake , 1.5 miles east of Rhinelander on old business hwy. 8. Looks like a neat set up but no muskie in the lake. Just FYI. m
------------------------------
FRIDAY: Comfort Inn, 5pm
we'll review the fishing success, share stories and pictures, and make plans for the next day.
Chuck Nelson from Pure Fishing/Abu Garcia will give a presentation on reel maintenance as well as take a look at your stuff if you ask "reel" nice.
Chuck will also be providing a smoked fish "snack" for everyone to enjoy during this meeting!
we'll wrap up in time to hit the water again for the evening bite.

Two Englishmen are walking around New York lookiing for food. "Do you know Americans eat dogs?' asked one. "No, how do you know?" "These little buggies are selling Hot Dogs. I wonder what they are like?"
So, they go up to one, order, get their bags and retire to a park bench to consume.
"What does yours taste like?" asked one.
"I dunno, haven't tried to eat it yet. Say, what part of the dog did YOU get?"
well, Norm liked it! m

Theedz, you and your wife are welcome anytime, but no more bananas in the boat!! If anyone needs to find some wind, invite Ghoti to come fish with you. He can blow up whitecaps on a toilet bowl. And ten hours on the water with Mikie and Mauser......need I say more (Mauser, what part of the dog did you get?)???
Unfortunatley, the outing ended a day early. The fish started to eat pretty well on Sunday. All the lookers were now turning into eaters. Clients boated two on Sunday with two others hooked and lost.
Already looking forward to next years outing!

Location: The desert | Sorry to keep y'all waiting. I promised to keep updates, but when we got to papa Joe's he'd given his work computer back for an upgrade so we were without internet all week.
Ace, you da man. Now, I thought you said 47 with a slump in the middel so that's what's on my MI form. As many of you know, I'm not a quarter inch fisherman, anyway. It was a #*^@ big fish, way heavy. Photos to follow shortly, I'm getting a roll developed now and then I'll do ssome scanning.
I was sick as a dog all morning with a fever and broncitis. I was glad Ace was willing to fish in such awful conditions. The fish was so heavy and I was so weak, I sat down for the photo. Not my best work but it was the best we both could manage.
Papa Joe put me on a three fish day last Wednesday, with a 45, a 40, and one I didn't measure but somewhere in the mid thirty range. Treats tried his best to get me a Tonka fish, I had one follow and he had one early on his birthday, then a couple more good strikes. We had a blast seeing him, PK, Jonesi, and Papa J during our trip. more later, just catching up on laundry and e-mail now. m
---------------------
Dude, that bait of yours just Rocks! When Ace saw the paint job I did on it, he said it was the ugliest thing he'd seen. It is certainly bigger around than a regular Globe, and moves a ton of water. I thought it was broken when I first got it, the prop was loose - found out later it was made that way for more noise (DUH!). I got a mid-30's on it later in the week, too. Dropped the fish back in the water without measuring, my bad.
Thanks again for making such a great bait, I've had two offers for it already. no way. m

For Friday morning, a real good bet for those without a seat would be to head to the Comfort Inn (outing central) and watch for any boat.
Mine is a TP175 Alumacraft, behind a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have room for one, maybe 2 cuz it's big enough for 3.
I'll be trying to make the Thursday evening meetup at the hotel and then want to help tend the campfire out at the Hideout Thursday night.
I'm not much of a morning person, so Friday morning around 8:30 ro 9AM would be a good time to find me at Comfort Inn, then I might be heading out to try following Mikie and Mauser with Norm Wild, since they will likely be leaving so many hot fish uncaught behind their boat!!
Kidding fellas! Really looking forward to seeing both of you again, seems like it's been a couple years!
Later,
Papa Joe
612-910-9303 cell
and dinner was Friday night - Chuck Nelson is providing smoked fish/crackers and a corn dish at the Comfort Inn

Location: The desert | Hey, Troy, Mauser sure had his chance. He got hit by a couple good fish but couldn't hang on.
This June, I drove to the Wisconsin outing and he got the fish, so now he drove to Minnesota and I guess that's how it goes.
We both had a great time and I can't thank Papa Joe enough for his hospitality. Being stuck between two chain smokers for the week is giving me withdrawals, anyone got a Camel? m

Location: South Portsmouth, KY | Thank you Steve, Lambeau, Slamr, Sue, Theedz, and everyone else that helped get this thing going. The weather surely didn't cooperate much, but I had a great time with some awesome people in my boat.

Location: South Portsmouth, KY | Hi Guys,
I guess I didn't post the musky-like activity I had on day 2. We were on Kentuck, drifting across a large deep weed bed, and I was using a chartruese-perch Squirrely Jake, tossing it shallower to the left. I got a slow lazy follow from a good mid-40s fish, and he kept looking at my figure8 but wasn't moving. When it left I casted out past it and retrieved faster, got the follow and went into a quicker figure8, this time the fish followed around and around (6 or 7 times around!), and eventually did hit the bait.
It was awesome cuz I haven't had much luck on figure8s before. So I waited for it to turn away, but before I had a safe chance to set the hooks the bait came loose.
I wouldn't call it the best follow ever, but back-to-back casts, with likely the same fish, and understanding the ability to get the fish to react differently when I brought it up the 2nd time, I was quite pleased despite the skunk in the trunk on the way home.
I am mostly receovered from the lack of sleep, and packing already to head next weekend for 3 days on Witch Bay, lake of the woods.
Anybody fished up there? (Witch Bay Lodge) sounds like we're doing the fancy-pants full meal plan and everything.
Later,
papa joe |

Location: South Portsmouth, KY | Wow, what a trip to Northern Wisconsin with Mauser. My right index finger took a hook so I won't write much (work calls, too!) but I need to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the wonderful family at MuskieFirst for a great fishing trip. The hospitality and generosity was, frankly, overwhelming, made it kinda hard to go home!
We stayed with Tomcat Thirsday night and got to meet his wife and kid. Great bunch of people and he loaned us a couple Phantoms, one of which raised a good fish on Kentuck. Got to see the new and improved Steve and some of the most awesome fish photos one can imagine. So good to see Stevie again and finally meet Tom. Then, on to Pewaukee with EsoxLazer and Tuffy1. We moved a couple fish and found that muskie lures really don't bankshot off of flagpoles very well! Thanks to Eric's folks for putting us up - and putting up with us.
On to Rhinelander. We noticed so many Harleys on the way up and finally found out there was a big biker rally in Tomahawk. Steered clear of that, two old married guys could get into real trouble there!. We borrowed the Patriot for the afternoon and moved a couple with no hookups. Accomodations at the Hideout were wonderful. Sunday, Keith took us out to three different lakes and worked our butts off to get fish. I think we saw 12 that day, including one that vaulted over my surface bait the first cast I made with it. Mauser got a dink and I had several good shots at fish who seemed to enjoy looking but not eating. Dang cold front anyway. A delicious dinner of fried potatoes and 'muskie steaks' (Steve, how does Sue get those big fillets so tender?) awaited our arrival. Ok OK, it was salmon with cheese melted and was the best meal I'd had in ages.
Gotta go now, more later about Sunday with Tony Grant. m

Location: Athens, Ohio | Sheeeesh! is right, Mr. W.
Here I was out fishing Cave Run all day yesterday with TOP H2O, and my posts were all over here as the clue! Amazing.
Funny thing, as Jerome and I were in the Scotts Creek parking lot, a dude who just launched his boat shouted to me at my truck, Hey are you from Ohio? Mikie?
It was Craig from New Jersey, said he'd been reading my posts here. I hope he nailed one yesterday cuz we sucked. Great day to be on the water, though. Top H is a top notch guy.
And while we're thanking folks, Thanks again, Steve, Sue, and Keith for a memorable trip to your back yard.
For those of you who don't know, Mauser won a scavenger hunt contest on Muskie First and the prize was a couple days at the Hideout, Keith's guide service of a day, and Sue's wonderful cookin. Very clever to start another hunt with the results from a previous one, Mr. Riddler!
Oh, and Muskieman, if you had to search thru my posts to find this winner, I'll send you my sympathy. I guess i'm up to 2564, according to the counter. Dang, I need a life, m
