I saw this lake mentioned some time ago in in-fisherman as a very good tiger musky lake. Does anyone out there know or have fished this lake? I was thinking of spending a week there in late may, early june if I could get some info. any help would be great. thanks

I don't know about the fishing but we duck hunt near hear every fall. If you need a place to stay it would be the R & H Motel in McClusky. Nice helpful people all around this area.

I live about 40 miles from New Johns and fish it quite a bit. In 03' the state record pure strain was taken out of there at 46lbs. They quit stocking pures probably about 10 or more years ago, but they are still in there and the few that are still in there are BIG. The tigers have been stocked pretty heavy the last 11yrs. The thing about New John is hardly anyone targets musky in this lake. I have fished for it 5yrs and have never seen another person fishing for musky. New Johns is one of four other lakes along with a lot of smaller bays connected by a canal system. The hole canal has musky in it and traveling though the canal is no problem in a boat. You can contact the North Dakota Game and Fish for maps and stocking info. (701)328-6300 They are very helpful. I'm sure they would be glad to email you the info.

Tips-May is a little early, June much better. Fish shallow with bright lures, smaller bucktails, chartreus blades are best.

Forgot, the lake has a 40 inch minimum size restriction.
