Location: South Portsmouth, KY | I am looking at some digital cameras and i was wanting to see what some of you guys use. I am looking for one thats under $150, good picture quality(Good quality when printed out). Whats cameras would you guys recommend with these specs? Also do they make any video cameras out there that take pictures and are under $150? Thanks for any info! |

| I went waterproof this year and won't go back when it comes to a fishing camera. The pictures can sometimes look flat, but they still turn out great and take some awesome underwater release video clips! I have an Olympus which goes for 400 dollars and the Pentax goes for 300, but I'm sure you can find one for a lot cheaper online. I would not get a digital for fishing that is not waterproof unless you can get a waterproof case for it, but those can cost as much as the camera itself. |

| I use a Nikon D50, which has come down a lot in price, but is still well above your price point. I do part-time photography, and even have a couple of "Muskie" magazine covers to my credit. I would suggest you look at camera types, and specs on line at dcresource.com, dpreview.com, and B&H.com. You can even order from B&H as they are quite reputable. Good luck in your search. |

I would not get a digital for fishing that is not waterproof unless you can get a waterproof case for it, but those can cost as much as the camera itself.
You can get a dry bag at Gander Mountain for around $10. Look in the canoe/ kayak section. I keep my camera and and a few other items in mine, it works great. |

Location: Oregon | I bought a Pentax Option WPI which is designed to take pictures down to something like 10' of water. It's a good camera, 6 megapix but it's kind of spendy, about 300 I think. If you get one make sure you can see through both the viewfinder and the little screen. My camera doesn't have a viewfinder so all pics must be taken by looking at the screen and sometimes when the light is just right this is really difficult. I wouldn't buy one below 3 megapix either because the picture quality really goes down below this value. Good luck.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The lens is everything. If the camera has a good lens like as not you will end up with good images. I've read quite a bit about the less expensive digitals, and the general consensus is look for a high rating on the lens. |

| check out www.svp-tech.com for a great selection of digitals. had mine for a while and its wonderful. Can switch from 4 to 8 megapixel and the edit of pictures is great.. zoom right up to the eyeballs..They have a huge selection even 12 megapixels.. Another feature is the lighted screens at night no guessing for night pics... mine ran about $200 but some are much cheaper.. It also takes live video and is a mp3 player |

| I'm 99% sure on the Olympus Stylus 720 that Brian mentioned.A client had one this Summer and it was waterPROOF to 10' and also shockproof.We took a couple underwater release shots that turned out well.7.1 megapixels too I believe.They said around $500, but found one for much less (1/2).Santa are you listening? Location: South Portsmouth, KY | Thanks for all the help guys. I finally decided on the Canon PowerShot A540. It has 6 megapixels and a 4x optical zoom and a 4X digital zoom. It looks to be a good camera for the money!

| What is the difference between digital and optical zoom?
at it's most basic, optical zoom is the LENS and digital zoom is the COMPUTER inside the camera.
the image is captured by the lens, and manipulated by the computer.
zooming in with the lens (optical zoom) retains clarity and sharpness of detail, whereas zooming in with the digital zoom makes the image bigger, but lower quality (fuzzy or digitized).
i generally have the digital zoom turned off on my camera and rely solely on the optical zoom. you can crop and edit it on your computer later.
